One of the biggest and easiest wins would be to reduce consumption\increase efficiency of trucking. Pretty much everything that comes of a boat or out of a factory gets to where it's going via trucking. Even if it gets on a train at some point, it still ends up in a truck to get to it's final destination.

I've seen some decent ideas that don't involve reinventing the wheel, but so far nothing has caught on yet. If an economically viable solution were to come along I think you'd see the freight companies adopt it as it would lower their costs, the majority of which is fuel. That would bring infrastructure costs down across the board for a whole host of products and services.

A win for the economy, and a win for the environment. A loss for big oil, so I don't doubt they'll use their political muscle to prevent it or at least slow it down.

tlokien and LBCrew, you guys can see it doesn't have to be the way things are right now. I think alot of folks on here, and elsewhere for that matter, feel the same way. It is getting over the initial inertia. The market is rigged to keep money in the oil barons pockets. They are taking over solar, so soon you won't be able to sell back to the grid if you have a solar power unit on your roof. People need to wake up. Especially here in Florida, the sunshine state, which lags behind Colorado and Germany and many others when it comes to solar power. Our governor is a world class thief. Most are.

Read the news--there is a global oil glut. Despite this, the Saudis refuse to lower production in order to retain market share. The expense would outstrip all profits by a wide margin. Simple economics, my friend, simple economics....

have you seen the side skirts on many truck trailers? very cheap way to increase fuel efficiency which ...wait for it........SAVES MONEY. Greed actually can work to protect the environment if put into terms of money savings.

PS--Many oil companies are HEAVILY involved with renewable energy but right now, nothing is as efficient as oil. If fusion ever hits, our kids will be on here whining about Big Fusion

Emissions and safety equipment, brah. It isn't hard to build a vehicle that gets 70mpg. It is very difficult to build one that gets 70mpg, passes current emissions regulation, passes safety standards, and retains the fun to drive dynamic consumers are expecting.

I don't consider myself an environmentalist. More of a conservationist. I try to minimize my own contributions to f@cking up the planet as much as possible. The true environmentalists aren't the hippies fighting every little thing they don't understand. The real environmentalists are the environmental scientists that commit their lives and careers to studying and understanding the environment. They understand better than anyone the cause and effect relationship humans have with the planet.

If a small time inventor has a back up strategy and or is financially diverse, that would allow him/her to propel their project forward despite the two choices the big shot market presents him with. Those being to either be bought out (for obvious reasons to technology apprehension and maintaining control over the supply) or suffocated through overweight in competition, basically muscled out for the same goal.

    Exactly 100% correct!
The hippies get to their protest sites via Lexus, BMWs, and Mercedes, just like Hollywood, whom they venerate.

Rabid Environmentalists are arseholes. Perfect example, we have a nearby coal fired power plant. For years a group of environmentalists fought and protested the plant over its emissions. In their protests they used to demand it be converted to Natural Gas. Now the plant is converting to gas because of the now inexpensive access to natural gas. Guess what, the exact same arseholes who once demanded the plant be converted are now fighting tooth and nail to block the conversion and the pipeline to be built along the shoulder of existing roads to supply the plant. They are also now complaining that burning natural gas will cause harmful emissions. One of the biggest nutbags in this group lives just a few blocks from me and I can't help but notice the power lines running into his house.

This makes me sad/laugh. Back in the day, churchgoers used to get harassed by their pastors and priests to live righeous lives, take care of the environment, give to the poor, and not be greedy douchcanoes. And these were the right-wing whackos of the day. They also told people where not to stick their p.

Now, the Pope says the same stuff, and we're told he's some sort of leftist nutjob? Not to get all walkingonH2o on you all, but F that noise. The Jesus freaks have been saying the same thing since forever. Some other A-hole changed the narrative, and you d-bags all bought into it.

Priests are supposed to make greedy c--ts feel bad. Camel through the eye of the needle, brother's keeper, in charge of the beasts and creation, and all that s. If chuchy people don't make you feel like an inadequate sinner, then they're doing it rong.

So, yes, I'm an crappy environmentalist. I try to go to hell a little less by using less power and gas. But I fly all over the f--king place, so I'm still gonna burn. And good on the crazy granola eaters. I'm not gonna try to cover up my own shortcomings by whining about their beamers. I think I'm with Brew on this one. Recognize you're planet-killer, do what you can [stand] to minimize, and support those who are working to fix what we're all busily f-ing up.

the irony here is the most of those people are using environmental hysteria to get rich....

and the Pope really ought to be using his bully pulpit to keep his Priests from fu@kign little boys.

The other day my neighbor drained the oil from his truck right onto is lawn. His well is about 20 feet away.

Heard his land lady yell at him, as he muttered something about how it originally came from the earth so hes going to put it back. It was probably synthetic oil.

Human impact on the environment could be normal, could be like every other species, but we have evolved to enjoy comforts. Comforts increase impact to a point, beyond that its pure ignorance, greed, and carelessness.

My childhood friend's dad was/is an environmental scientist working to fix the horrible things the coal industry has done to WV wildlife. He was specifically tasked with cleanup of rivers and streams that were basically dead due to acid mine drainage. Thanks to him and his team, many previously dead rivers in WV are now filled with life. He is not a wealthy man. If I have to choose between politicians, lobbyists, multi-billion dollar oil/gas companies, and scientists/engineers when looking for honesty with environmental issues, I am going to go with the guys who actually study environment. Sure, no profession is completely immune from having a few people with questionable ethics. That is why independent research is also key. All that said, most of the published/experienced researchers will tell you the many cons with the biofuel industry. Good ideas and research often get mucked up when politicians get involved.

Tolken black, are you a rock star? Music not base.

Blue Barry, wow, you just hate everything, huh? Even the planet you reside on. Yeah, pollution is over-hyped. Listen to this dude living in clean and green New Hampshire. Man, you should see the trash in New Jersey, Blue Barry.

I don't think people in states like New Hampshire can really comment on anything. Too sheltered...too away from the grime of populated areas. Like the southerners probably couldn't even name a city in New Hampshire. Well, couldn't name one of the two cities in New Hampshire.

You can drive the deepest darkest road in the Pine Barrens and there's still a ton of trash on the side of the roads. Illegals constantly get sick at Atsion Lake. Our ocean used to be risky to enter, but the infections made it totally worthwhile. I like when the eye secrets a mucous....

But environmentalism or metalism is for sucky, sucky poo-poo heads. All you, "I hate politican"-types seem very Republican. Environmental laws sometimes effect Blue Barry's stocks.

Wow, I'm so much better than you guys.

I consciously decided not to drive anymore. Haven't drove since 2010. I now use NJ Transit - the bus, the train, the way to go. And I share rides when I do use a car.

Wow, I'm very nice and good.

And I don't need ten boards for 0-8 foot conditions so I'm better that way too.

I want a medal from Gore.

And a public service warning: Don't get Seldom too upset aboot this stuff. He is a native and might have a tomahawk. I'm just sayin, tread lightly.
