Went out at the north end. Surfed for 30 min, caught maybe 2 waves... hear a whistle and see Mr. Police Officer pointing at me and two other guys that happened to be out. Said they got a call from a non-emergency line saying that we were coming to close to the children...

All the while there are 2 dudes, out just as far as us, on giant SUP's who didn't get anything. What a load of Sh1t...

All three of us were polite to the copper, and asked if there was any way he could let us go with a warning.

Nope. court date is September 8, at 11:00 am. could always prepay i guess...

The "accusers" would need to be present if the cop was responding to "hearsay".
Easy to get dismissed. If the cop did not see it and has no witnesses, no reasonable judge should fine you.
    Unless you have ****heads.......

Holy sh_t man, that is bullsh_t!!! You should call back to the non-emergency line and say the kids are getting to close to you and you are scared. LOL How much is the fine?

How much is the fine? Were you riding the whitewash into the kiddies?

Getting a ticket for surfing dangerously sounds awesome, until you realize that it's for groveling in tiny mush while some toddlers are splashing in the waves right next to you.

Some frigged up parents. Instead of telling the kids to be aware, their answer is to call the cops. Who are they going to blame for child endangerment when their kids are eaten by sharks? It's called parenting, people. Use it wisely. Sorry and pissed you got snagged.

well it was actually because you cant surf north end VB on weekends until 4:00 pm.. I really thought anything past the board walk was fair game any time. which means the only legal surfing areas are 1st st. (Fvck that..) and Croatan (eh..)

The only reason we got a ticket was because some crotchety old woman called the cops.

The sign said up to 250 but the cop said 35 + court fees... so probably somewhere around 80 bucks for 30 min of mediocre surf...

Well, regardless of the old crotch, you were still in the wrong. Can't be too mad about the fine. Do what Sheldonne said, might get it reduced.

Not mad about the fine, ignorance of the law is no excuse. Took the summons with a smile on my face, put the board down and body surfed for another half hour or so.

What does make me mad is the stand up paddle boards that are surfing the same waves in the same area that don't get fined. These guys are more of a liability than the surfers. Huge boards with terribly unseasoned pilots.

Additionally, he told us they are required to have a PFD if they are a certain distance out, but he seemed to have no trouble overlooking that as well.

What waves? there's was a little something at croatan but nuthing from 80th to 11th st.

But if there ever are waves, where the cops didn't have to take a step off the sand to grab you, NEVER paddle in.

If you prepay, you will have to pay the full amount. If you go to court and plead "No Contest" the judge will likely cut the fine in half. At least this is how it works in traffic court.

I was around 66th st. It was not consistent but every now and then there would be a nice waist high wave coming through.

I thought about not paddling in... but i figured he might let us go with a warning.

Yeah, I agree with ya about some of the SUPs I see, very dangerous. Some of these guys should get fined for just pulling up to the beach with it on their car.

Funny how he enforces the law with you guys and even tells you the laws for SUPs, but doesn't enforce theirs. You should have called and said you were Mildred and you are very scared because the fellas on those paddle board thingy's are too far out and they might get swept away. BWAHAHAHA

Anyway, hoe ya get it reduced mang!

Back last century, I was out at 80th after curfew. Back then, piggies had choppers, speed boats, quads and under cover "agents" dressed liked tourons, to keep evil surfers in line. A helicopter flew over me and used a loud speaker to tell me to go in. I paddled out like I didn't hear. He kept yelling and dropping. Water was being churned around me as I kept surfing. as soon as he left, I caught one in.

    Just skip the ticket.

Let them issue a warrant for you. If they actually ever get you(probably from a traffic stop) then you can smuggle things in for Keith who is at The Prince William County Hotel. Assuming you get pulled over in PWC. Shoot, he may actually be Fairfax property. Another Manassas guy goes down.....

Man, VB is not surfer friendly. You guys always get tickets for surfing.

How do they write tickets for surfers? Do you have to provide ID or do they just ax your name. I don't know, I don't have my ID in the water. If they just ax for your name always say, "John Nievens." Ah that would be impressive if I knew John's address but I don't.

Ah man, legal problems suck, man. But as long as you ain't Superior it's alright. Court that is. Municipal is nothing; Superior is everything.

If the cop didn't see you surfing near the kids, f@ck getting it reduced. Fight it. O Barry is right. Don't pay a friggin dime. Don't be a Lonesome Trailer, be an ANGRY Trailer. Slam your fist in anger on the Defendant's table, get locked up for Contempt of Court. Never Give up the Fight!
