The Sandy Hook campground is only for the Boy Scouts. Jersey can't have a campground that close to metro area otherwise it would likely become a tent city for the homeless. And going 20 mins from your house isn't really true to the bohemian spirit so branch out dude, the closest real campground with facilities would either be Long Island or Delaware where you can legally pitch a tent in the dunes. Just bring a couple of fishing poles and say your night fishing if you really wanna camp on a Jersey beech...But if you ask me the only place worth camping in Jersey is along the Delaware river or even on one of it's islands, go there if the surf is flat and try some rapids.
