Pretty sweet little article I wanted to share. Many of us have our secret spots. This article made me appreciate some memorable surfs that only light up a beach so often. One that everyone know about is fishermans island.... .anyone ever catch it good there? http://stabmag.com/ill-take-a-novelty-wave-over-pipeline-anyday/
Cool article! I haven't surfed a lot of spots so I can't really contribute my own experience on "secret" or elusive spots but I enjoyed reading this. Thanks
seldom, i see you comments here and there and I always think of my old hayduke handle.... any idea why? Doesnt seldom have a cartoon? haha
Hahaha! Wondering if anyone would ever catch that...I couldn't find one amigo, so I had to honour you... I always like this pic too...
The day Sandy hit, I got the chance to hit up my favourite novelty spot. Couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it working. First of a few times I have paddled out there but definitely the best... hint... it's in NJ PS. Mason is my favourite surfer PSS. I want to surf fort point https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=87UkNCWKvP0 PSsSsSt....
there are 2 spots near wb that require a certain tide and long period hurricane swell to work. may break once a decade. i would love to surf santa clara rivermouth
I know of one in NJ myself. I've only seen it work once in about five years on longish period swell, good wind and the right tide. Think right hand point break.
yo metardski, surf nrg vol 7 I believe,i believe it was pumphouse, reef road one of them... it was cj hobgood, matt kechele, and baron knowlton towing into what looked like eastcoast teahupoo.I don't think they have a video online but I got the dvd, biggest and best conditions I eva seen at reef rd.it was a legit 30ft faces.they said reef road never broke the same.one of these days il try to find the dvd and take a screen shot because most ppl would never believe it,unless u were there or have the dvd lol
I've caught a left that was overhead and reeelin down the beach for maybe 200+ yards before dumping off into marshgrass. I miss it. I miss good waves.
novelty waves existed for like 3 months after cane' sandy.i havnt been surfing for 30 yrs like most people on here lol,but the months after sandy there were waves breaking like kirra, barreling for 4 jettys.I got some crazy epic footage of a few winter swells after sandy.sucks my new computer doesn't have the memory card slot to upload pics and vids
We got a couple spots up here that I would sometimes consider novelty. Ive caught it a bunch, but only caught it really good over bare rock a handful of times. The novelty is a sense of fear when watching boulders crowd your line, navigating them while the best wall and/or barrel section opens up for a few hundred yards and coming off to realize only 4 (ok sometimes its 20) of your friends are with you.
