How important is pad placement and where do you prefer your traction pad?
As close to the leash plug as possible?

Just picked up a 6'3" Fred Stubble on sale and I am a kook when referring to all things shortboard as this is my first one. I will be running it as a tri.

I've heard 1 inch in front of leash plug or directly over the farthest point of your back fin. For me they were about the same so I felt good about it. So far so good...

Most important thing is to clean the area with isopropyl alcohol (or similar). Then don't surf it for a day

I usually put them right up against the leash plug...definitely wouldn't stick it stick farther than an inch up from the leash plug on a stubble. If you stick it too far forward, it will mess up your foot placement and turns.

Ok. I figured it would be safer to go too far back than forward. I'll make sure I clean it.

All the way back - like they said. More important then the leash plug- get the kick part of the pad over the back fin.

Make sure to lay it out first with the paper still over the sticky stuff. Spread out the pad - like Tards pic- and use a pencil to mark where you lay it out. Then firmly press it on and let it dry for 24 hrs.

Make sure there is no wax or cleaner residue on it.

    Once it's stuck- it's stuck

Oh yea- get a dakine. They are nice

What walkingonh2o said. wtf, this place is slipping - - - summer doldrums are sedating minds.

Stick that trac pad, using massive amounts of cyberbond glue, as far back as you can on bubonic's fat arse & stomp the living shiiiiite out of it.

    There. Now you're all set.

I don't use the leash plug as a guide. What matters is where your foot is in relation to your fins. I put the leading edge of the wedge of foam at the back end of the pad directly over the trailing edge of my trailing fin. This puts the back edge of the pad behind the trailing edge of the fin. Depending on where your leash plug was installed, it may or may not cover your leash plug. If it does, I just trim away the pad just enough to expose the plug. This is a little too far forward for me... I'd move it back about an inch. This puts my foot directly over my trailing fin for when I want it there.

first board, 6'3? your track pad should be the least of your worrys. you won't be able to utilize it properly till you've caught about 500 waves. see you in 2 years if you're still surfing by then
