A SUP Sticker Making the Rounds

hahaha I love it! i wish we could get some in OCMD, I seen some kooky bastards out there, I dont care if youre just learning or are some old-time master - I just don't like em!

lol i went into some surf shop when i was there by marias to buy the 413 sticker and i walked out with the 413 sticker and that clown sticker. he said he was the one that drew it up and told me all about it. said its already made it to hawaii cuz there was a reporter in puerto that was from hawaii. seems real popular cant wait to put it up on a sign at the beach that it wont get ripped off of.

 

Worst trend in ever in surfing. "Hey lets stand on our huge longboards and paddle into waves with an oar."

are u kidding???? who gives a **** about some stupid sticker...wow the things kids will do to show their youth. if you haven't tried an sup you should shut your mouth, if you have been run over by one you can open it. either way its enjoyment for people, in the ocean we ALL SHARE. it also happens to be great for keeping in surf shape when there is little to no swell. personally I prefer normal surfing, but now and then I'll take out the sup....variety is the spice of life...too bad u young no-it-alls haven't been around long enough to handle "the spice". nuff said...now u can go back to collecting stickers, like a bunch of grammar school tools. oh ya and i doubt any of you would say **** to a guy on an sup, as he'd probably beat your ass, so instead u whine about it in a forum. next time u see an sup'r be a man and spout off to him...that is if you're not too busy collecting stickers!!!

Maybe someone should make another handle - "No SUPs"

Besides, there's a right place for SUPs and a wrong place. the wrong place being in a lineup with YOU being the only goofy guy on one. Kinda puts the rest of us in danger if ya can't handle your sh!t. The RIGHT place would be far, far away from people, out on your own mystical journey, perhaps paddle down to some uninhibited barrier island for the day and find your own little peeling wave. And set up camp, and stay there for a while, and really ask yourself why do I really ride such a big bulky board?

I recall a day, I believe it was the Hanna swell, I went to Assateague for the noon time. ONE kooky guy on one of those things, it was light blue. Everyone else on a shortboard or a bodyboard. He was bumpin' and lubbin' around through everyone else, trying to pick out a set wave. . .

Well, he got his set wave, right on the head. He rowed himself into the biggest one, pearled it, and we never saw him out there again. Last I saw him he was dragging that thing up the beach sulking the whole way. (Mind you, Hanna produced roughly 6-8ft at Assateague that day, we all saw it happen, and knew it was coming).

They aren't for these waters, and thanks for asking, cause next time I see a SUP getting in others' way, I will ask them to kindly row his boat 100 yards from shore, that he was endangering swimmers.

Bro... I teach surf camp for WRV. At the camp we have a SUP, which i used many times. Using it only made me realize how retarded they really are. If riding a longboard the size of a john boat with an oar sounds fun to you, then more power too ya (i guess), but I'm just letting you know that everyone else thinks it really lame.
But anyways, My stand on SUP'ers is the same on as my stand on old crappy longboarders. CUT THEM OFF, THINK NOTHING OFF IT!!!! Then when they wine about it say, "well dude, your not surfing, your SUPing," then proceed to burn them every time they attempt to ride a wave, or at least wash out their section.
Its the only way they will ever learn to stay away from lineups!!!

 

Life is too short, as long as you're riding, having fun, and not hurting anyone, ride whatever gets it done. Try to remember THE GOLDEN RULE! It works for surfing too.

 

They are sick but the sup kind should seek uncrowded sandbars away from people. Not sit at the top of a pack of people and clean up the sets.

I guess prime place would be at a far out sandbar somewhere along assategue. Or i imagine they would be sick on a shoal. Kinda ride and then paddle around the surf to the peak clean wthout whitewater. Find some space to sup.

 

i dont have a problem with sups. the thing that does bother me is those surf kayakers. one day after a tropical storm came and left we had head high offshore waves and all these surf kayakers were out in the line up with us surfers and cut me off about 10 times and it was the same dude. after the 1st i told him to pay attention since i had the peak and he didnt and he said okay well he did it again and we about fought each other cuz when i saw him go in after the finall time he cut me offf i went into shore and told him he needed to not cut me off again and we about got in a fight but the lifegaurds were there and stopped it and gave him a ticket for not following the rules. but ever since then i have always hated those surf kayakers.

 

Blah Blah blah. I can't hate the Sup's for having a good time, even if it is a ridiculously gay way to enjoy the ocean... and even if Eddie and Laird are doing it, I don't care. I just try to coexist with my fellow lineup patrons, and undoubtably I let them know when they have trespassed.

 

Bump for the sweepers at Teague who paddle over out of nowhere and proceed to take set waves right on top of you without so much as a hello thread.

 

that sticker is old...like a decade or more old, when SUPs first came to popularity.

I don't like SUPs, mostly because my first encounter with one was an a-hole that insisted on catching every single wave that came through...zero priority or consideration. To me, they signify someone who's given up and/or thinks they're too old to paddle laying down...or just an a-hole who wants every advantage to take every wave possible, regardless of the abysmal performance.

They have their place: lakes and any unsurfable flat water.

 

I don't like SUPs either, mostly because every encounter I've had has been like that. Fun to burn, though.

I was there when the dude lost his life on SUP at Tres last Febuary...witnessed them pull his body out later in the day

 

Its the dudes who have never surfed because it was "too hard" that go out and drop $1000+ on a 747 wing sized board, then wobble out awkwardly and post up at the most crowded spot that grind my gears. I give the same amount of respect/attention to the beginner floundering around - zero. I know they're not catching anything so who cares.
