Is there one main resource that tells you when each town's lifeguards go on duty. I usually surf an unguarded town so it hasn't been an issue, but we want to hit some other breaks here and there. Is the general rule that they start on Memorial Day or the 4th or something? How about the typical hours for guarding? This may be obvious for some, but lifeguards haven't be an issue for me in about 8-9 years. I tried checking some towns websites but didn't see anything relevant. Thanks for any info!
Generally speaking. Memorial day - June 20th or so, when the schools let out, guards work weekends. From then til labor day, they work full time. Again, usually from about 8:30-9-5:30-6. Figure 9 hours they'll be there, or keep you out of the water
Thanks. I guess that means weekend warriors like myself have to take them into consideration as of now then. I'll look forward to September for several reasons!
youre obv only going to be going when theres waves and when waves are good most people wont be in the water therefore guards wont care if youre surfing....by me no matter the guards do care you surfing bc we surf off the jetty which is far enough from the designated swimming area...also manny beaches such as point pleasent have specific beaches set aside for certain types of activities and they will strictly enfore this while theyre on duty...youll really have to pick the spot first and find out more about it
Like what LVI said, many beaches have a designated surf beach, and only allow you to surf there during hours. Granted its something, but then its always crowded during the day. Even when there isn't a ripple.
if you head to the state parks there are areas that are not guarded and they normally break better and are less crowded than the designated surfing area. im gonna leave it up to you to find out where those breaks are
True, I was looking into some of those type of breaks. Still trying to find out the specifics though!
i dunno where in jersey you are, but i do know Avon has a designated surfing beach. but its usually full of groms and doesnt have the greatest breaks
theres some mediocre surfing beaches in oc nj but theyll be packed too...if you do go there, do not go to 7th street. that beach sucks **** and will be full of 12ft foam boards and lots of rash guards
I hear ya. I grew up surfing OCNJ and the only timed I surfed 7th street was during competition. After that I stuck to the south end, like 47th/57th or I went to Brigantine. Haven't surfed down there in years though.
Drive around till you find a surfable wave. What the hell is so tough about that, lifeguards work 10 to 5 mostly, all you need to know.
