if I am paddling next to you and I am up on my feet when you are still paddling, even if you ARE CLOSER TO THE PEAK wave belongs to rider who is first up and riding, just wanted to clear that up kinda makes it hard for a boog to ever have priority, lolz
what the f is this? Surfing school for the short bus people? The star pupil is akapumpmaster. I always like to give people the benefit of the doubt but after ridiculous number of "let me teach you something kid" in my first real post here I really have my doubts that anyone here even surfs. Im sure everyone here has a board or boogey board but I don't see this crowd out in frigid winter surf.
I think I remember a pretty lengthy debate about this kind of situation. In my humble opinion, it's whoever is closest to the peak. Some waves wrap kind of funny and it's possible for the guy on the shoulder to be up and riding first even when the peak is obviously the better spot to be taking off from. Also your interpretation would seem to favor longboarders and paddle boarders. If I've got position and you happen to catch the wave first because your on a boat, I'm still going. Eff that.
well stinkie, I guess you can surf behind me. surfing is a brotherhood, right? and brothers share. haha
Ya see?? You guys cannot even agree what the rules are. There are no rules. Surfing is a "lawless" activity. In the water, rules disappear, vanish, poof!! Gone. And that is the way it should be....free-for-all, party wave, group session, etc. Until such time that rules are voted in, written, agreed to by all. As of now, rules are ephemeral.
Barry, its not just surfers who are dumberer...its all of society I blame massive centralization of the education system via NCLB and Common core (which removes calculus from physics, WTF!!) 2015 saw lowest SAT scores. ever. I dont think its because we are becoming dumber, we are just catering to idiots http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-09-03/americans-have-never-been-dumber
Completely disagree. 60's had legal racism and tons of other crappy things. Yet everyone loves the romantic idea of growing up then. Today kids are building computers and flying planes and what not. Ask a kid about something I guarantee you he knows something about it due to the internet. Dont be so naive....
Surfing has "guidelines" that most skilled surfers adhere to until it becomes ridiculous, on a case by case basis, much like driving on the interstate. No one wants to get in a head on driving to the store, and no one wants to get his eye poked out surfing 3 foot waves at his/her local beach. If I am in the left lane and someone is going slow, I will pass them on the right going faster than the speed limit. But the person in the left lane was the kook, for going slow in the passing lane. Do you catch my drift? If you are surfing with others, in order to avoid wasting time arguing over waves, there is a system in place. It can be fuzzy at times, such as peak v. backdoor positioning priority, but overall it helps us all go out and catch waves without it turning into Day of the Flies, or Children of the Corn out there. The illustrious Shawn Thompson came up with the 10 commandments of surf etiquette, or something along those lines, 20 or so years ago. Learn them, love them, live them.
Down here in Florida we have Publix, where shopping is a pleasure.(it really is the beez kneez) At the deli, they have the take a number system. Without this I'm sure it would be total chaos and not so much pleasure. Why can't we use this system at different breaks, maybe try it out at, The Brad's break first?
"Legal racism" has been replaced by "anti-intellectualism", anti-wealth, anti everything successful, etc. Reduction to the lowest IQ in a class is the American way now. Ever hear of PC?? That is where it starts; that is where it ends as well. It is the reason, amongst others, that many parents choose to "home teach". Your public schools are nothing but oversized baby-sitting organizations. Teaching is, actually, forbidden.
Because their schools are even worse. And, those that do, are rich, They do not send their kids to American PUBLIC schools, dipstick. If they do....they are morons, and so will their children be.
Im talking about as a whole, not the outliers, you are describing some of the more motivated, not the mean do you know what a mean is? and your 'feelings' dont trump data
