School is what you make of it. You can fark off, scrape by and regurgitate the spoon fed stuff, or you can apply yourself and actually learn something. Nothing beats reading all the books you can and travel.(IMHO) In SC public schools vary massively in curriculum. Unfortunately some are just a day care center for kids that would otherwise be on the streets. Private schools have the option to make the kids who are failing or misbehaving leave. Bottom line is parental involvement is the single biggest factor in a students success.

I ran into a friend who has lived in Hong Kong for 20 years and talked with her for a couple hours about China. It's one big *ss country with a lot of diversity. Good and bad like every where. Also got a couple friends who go almost every year for charity work and they absolutely love visiting. I'd jump at a chance to go if possible.

I asked her what the first thing she noticed when she returned to the states and she said evrybody is fat here.lol

Sounds like a real paradise, esp when you combine the unbelievably polluted air & water in China.

Every era has "tons of crappy things," short eyes. The 60's wasn't perfection but it also wasn't a lot of things that your freak show has today:
it wasn't gun violence in schools
it wasn't massively adulterated food & beverages that have spawned exponentially higher rates of blood diseases, cancers & other physical & psychological maladies
    it wasn't over-medicated kiddies
it wasn't over-medicated kiddies shooting up movie theatres, schools & houses of worship
    it wasn't massive child porn
it wasn't massive human child trafficking

It was a lot of things & it wasn't a lot of things. Don't get your knickers in a twist, short eyes phonics.

Hong Kong from what I have been told is a lot different from the rest of China. Like I said I know a handfull of people who have visited a dozen times or so and enjoyed it. Not looking to move there. I've always been fascinated by different cultures and have never bought into there is only one way to be/live mentallity. One of the people I know who has gone multiple times lived in Miami for a strecth so he was used to car jackings, gang violence ect.lol
