Noticed something weird lately that whenever I long board even if its small I leave the water much more relaxed, focused, and in general just alot better mood compared to taking the ripstick out and feeling either A) stoked but more in a aggressive way or B) no feeling at all just another day in the soup..

    whats yall thoughts on this

Surfing is all about relaxing and stylin for me. The day it becomes work - I'll quit it.

Get a better shortboard for your size and ability. Longboards and sups are like riding in the back of the bus, Id rather take the Ferrrari!!!!!

I'll let you know how my surfing works out for me, thanks. Until then, perhaps, in quest of self discovery you'd like to question yourself more often. It makes for a more developed self awareness along with a warmer soul with a brighter aura.

That's because you don't understand how to turn a longboard and / or do cutbacks on a longboard, raddamoron. You're straight down the line every time just like most people. But hey, you rad baby, you rad!

It's good to be able to dance the waltz with a beautiful woman when there is a band playing the waltz. It is also good to be able to mosh in the pit when the punk rock is banging. Don't be a one trick pony.

I dissed the LB for decades, but learned that there is so much soul and style involved, and the feeling of glide and speed is awesome. It translates back to the SB.

A wave with a longboard on it is a wasted wave, Its lame and if you support it your lame as well. End of discussion!

+ 1 for both I can't imagine being ignorant or closed minded to have only one option which leads me into another question. Shouldn't you have a long board in your quiver?

for sure, and a few boogs. never mind the pseudo shredders, the self inflicted limitations are a swiftly fading thing of the aggressive past. and over or under compensation for what, only the wind knows.

    Over the mountain
And the seasons roll under the sun
Passing the shadows of our dreams"

Not with the new technology in short boards and grovelers. If you can't do turns on a grovel board then it's not worth being out there, go make money till a rideable swell hits. You asked for my opinion ,now you have it. I hate that crap long boarders hide behind "shortboard guys have no skill or soul" blah blah crap. Longboarding is slow and boring, kneeslapping crap . Who needs it go to work!!!

If I didn't surf longboard I wouldn't surf much at all. Wrongboard is essential for a Florida summer.

Allright motoboy, I get where you're coming from about the small days and the grovelers. But there's still a place for the glide and slide. Just ask your wife.

Yah....like Slash stated: ask yo' wife.....

Your one-dimensional thinking, and I use the term 'thinking' very, very generously with you raddamoron is, and how can I say this gently, indicative of a one-dimensional, possibly functionally lobotomized individual.

There should be no debate. It's knowing when to use the right board for the conditions your given. I think if you want to call yourself a "surfer" you should be well rounded with long and short boards. Either, has it's place for self expression. Share the love brothers and sisters, don't be afraid to expand horizons. Stay wet!

Variety is the spice of life, ride them all. It's nice having options to surf different styles depending on the waves and my mood.

If you're not ridin a 3'6 (cm) handmade alaia, you ain't surfing!

For real though I hear OP about the vibes, but I've never longboarded anything of consequence. I imagine the dudes who are taking out longboards on the biggest days of the year do not feel 'relaxed and focused;' if anything, the sesh is even more hectic with a 20 lb missile attached to your leg.
