anybody live in Georgia or been there?how are the waves,do they get waves?

between this flat spell and my crappy job I been movin like a hamster in a wheel....

anyway I have a potential job opportunity in augusta Georgia, didnt even look it up on a map, have no clue where it is.all I know is Georgia is above florida, florida "allegedly" gets good waves, and I figure trips to mexico and costa should be a lot cheaper than from nj.so if anyone knows about living costs down there, like is it cheaper than jersey or anything it would help.

I got a bunch of job opportunities ranging from Louisiana to texas.texas is booming with work, but im a pothead and a surfer and I know my kind isn't welcome in texas, and I don't want to surf oil tanker waves.the work im trying to get in is building new petro fields(oil plants or something like that),I have experience pipefitting, but thinking of going to a welding school to learn how to weld pipe, since that's a big part of the job, would be good to know how to do it.the pay increase is amazing, like id be making 55/hr and some jobs have prevailing wage which means like 110/hr or something like that.this is what flat spells do to me,make me reconsider my whole career.

so if I do take one of these jobs im going to have to fly down to Georgia or Louisiana to take a few tests.im just starting to not like jersey more and more, but im sure if a week of solid waves come along in the next week or 2,i probably wont go

The nearest surfable waves to Augusta are in the Charleston, SC area, not Georgia, and that's 2-3 hours/120+ miles away. The closest waves in Georgia (Tybee Island) are a little further away and worse.

Those southern states are huge....north Florida is like 250 miles to the south.

    It ain't happenin.

wrong tybee does get good waves and Jacksonville is nice. i live on the island next to tybee and they get some good waves from time to time but it lacks consistency. you dont want to drive from augusta to c-town fk that or jville. dont move here youll be depressed im moving out because the lack of consistency is driving me surf insane. you will get 3-4 hollow days a year if lucky, more in florida. move to florida or the outer banks if moving to the south other wise your fked. tybee does have a of break though, a pier , outer sandbars to the sound, the sugar shack for different winds, a jetty. honestly it has a lot a variety more than many surf breaks on the east coast, im talking with in a few miles and where the hell did my homie on here from tybee go!!!!!!!!! come back dude

I surfed Tybee Island once during a Christmas visiting family. a strong cold front moved through producing some chest high short dumpy drainers. it was fun because of the novelty, but when I spoke to friends back in Jersey, they said it was all time up there. Def would not want to live there.

Bear in mind that some of those jobs may have pre-employment and ongoing drug testing.

But once you get down there, you might find other local activities to replace surfing:

I lived in Savannah for four years (college at SCAD) and since it was before web cams I would always bring my board when I got a chance to go to the beach. Most of the time I would just hang out with my friends on the beach (no waves). I can only recall two days that it was really good (chest high+ and hollow). I'm sure I missed some good days since I didn't have a car to get to the beach until junior year. And now Tybee is very "proud" of their paid parking 365 days a year and 24 hours a day! So I won't go there ever again.

Pretty much anywhere in the south is going to be significantly cheaper than jersey when it comes to cost of living. You live in one of the highest taxed states in the country.

Random trips to Tybee or any other low country beaches will never get you any fun waves. It is so shallow so far out there that long period swells never reach them and only short to medium period swells on the right tide are any fun and only for a few hours, even then it is weak. In other words you have to live really close by to even surf it. Been going to Tybee 2 times a year for 20 yrs. for work and never even seen it rideable. Lots of sideshore wind though, probably OK for kitesurfing sometimes.

If you have pipe fitting and welding skills and want to surf maybe head to SoCal? Seems that they have plenty of that kind of work with shipyards and oil platforms all over. Augusta is not so great for a surfer I would think. Maybe even surfer hell....Get that underwater welding cert. and be where you want to be (in a breaking pacific groundswell I would imagine).

augusta is right on the georgia/ SC border consider it being like living a little more west of philly and driving to bayhead to go surf if you wanted to compare it to NJ...... eff that id rather take a flat spell with occ waves living 2 miles from the beach then MAYBE slightly more consistent waves but your 2 hours from the beach.......

you know that is a great fuking idea lol,im glad u said that.i would much rather move to socal than Georgia.i got to look into that in cali.I go on this work forum where everyone brags about how big their d1ck is and how much they get paid lol,and everyone is from the south, guys saying they make 4grand a week, and theres jobs everywhere.its hard to not take that up.i just feel my time in jersey has run its course,i need something else, but I don't want to go somewhere far from the ocean

also these guys that make 4grand a week, also get random drug tests, and I never studied for those lol..but theres in between jobs that are layed back where u can make 2 grand a week.i know right now at my job im getting robbed, along with everyone else, its nothing new,but seeing guys do the exact same job I do in a different state and posting their paystubs is pretty daunting.

everything is expensive here, cost of living keeps raising while job pay stays the same.i just want to be near the ocean or atleast make enough money where I can take a weekend surf trip.

Cep, I never want to tell anyone what to do with there life or how they should live it but if you have youth, no wife and kids or house payments, get a little cash together, get yourself a one way plane ticket and hit the eastern PAC Surf like a efin madman.
