I'm fine at home. I had another key cut without the fob. It won't start the car but it will unlock the door. So my fob gets locked in the car and the key goes in my pocket/wetsuite/leash. My question is more related to rental cars, when you've got 2 big fobs connected together, and probably no friends with you that don't surf, and likely no hitch on the back of your car... I guess I'll stick to hiding them for now. I do like the dog poop. that funny.
If you didn't have the prob Unky has you can find somewhere to lock that puppy up. Every car has hooks for towing, that should work. Good luck. I've tried various ways of taking my key with me but after breaking the zipper on one pocket then almost breaking the stretch cord I had it secured in the key inside the pocket with I just keep it combo locked on the truck. Hopefully I won't take yet another hit to the head and forget the combo.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00Y3FLYWG?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00 You can buy this film Amazon cheap. You put the electronic fob inside it. There is metal thread in the fabric that blocks the radio signal. It feels like cloth fabric. Survivalists buy stuff like this so that the government cannot track signals coming out of their phones, their computers etc. You use the valet key to open the door. You put the electronic fob into this protector and hid it. Car will not start if the key is in the protector. Problem solved. I hear all cars in the near future will have these types of ways of starting the engines.
Betty that's a good find. Buoys - I've had to deal with this problem mad times. I typically just stash it in the sand near something I can pinpoint, like a small landmark, or place it in shrubs using the same navigation sense. I keep it covert when stashing and make it look like I'm just reaching down to fix my boots or board or something. If you adjust your junk and package and you stand up, you'll quickly have any voyeurs look away. Unless they're from FL. At the home break, my truck has a keypad in it so I just lock key inside. Can't overstate the value and ease of that. Not just for surfing.
The real answer is this^^^ Maybe not windows open because of critters. If the door is unlocked and there is $5 in the ashtray, any 3rd world thief will be stoked and move on.
Wow!! Absolute genius idea above. I get a ziplock bag, seal it and keep it in my heavily velcroed baggies. Works as long as you are not surfing Tres Palmas at 15ft or greater.
Works well, especially if you leave $2 on the dashboard, enough for a bag of smack in PR. Thats all they need.
Just pop those car keys into one of these containers, bend over & in it goes. Talk about high security... https://www.securesearchinc.com/catalog/Concealment.htm Word on the street is that these devices are popular with waynetheinsaaaane, short-eyes-phonics, chucka-boo-boo &, of course, raddamoron.
I've found that watching Pulp Fiction, specifically the chapter titled "The Gold Watch" gave me a great idea for a solution to your problem.
LOL! Seems like everyone is telling you to keister your keys. Do that if it's something you're are into, but I have done this stuff for decades without anything going up that end. Here are some options: 1. In your wetsuit, there should be a pocket on the leg. Put the key there. (All the new ones will have this little slot.) 2. Put them in the pocket of your boardshorts. 1-2 further advice: If the key is electronic, then seal it in a waterproof bag. 3. Put some shoelace either of those pockets and use the lace to open the car (where the key has been stashed). It doesn't need to be shoelace either...check out these options for opening the car: http://united-locksmith.net/blog/locked-keys-in-car-here-are-some-quick-diy-tips 4. Find a locksmith or just a home improvement store with a key cutter and get a surf key made for a buck. They are not going to check to see if you own the car. Just to explain (because I am not sure if everyone knows what a surf key is), a surf key is a spare that is only the metal bit that will open the car and has none of the electronic stuff. If you need a transponder or the fob thing to start the car, that should be left inside the vehicle. Put those keys in the trunk so that if someone does try and steal the car, it will not start. If anyone has some serious suggestions they would like to add, I am sure I missed something. But that is a good starting point for you to get thinking about what will work for you.
Yup, this is what I do. Home Depot carries these things for around $20-$30. Latch it on your door handle, or to the tow hook under your vehicle if you want to be more discreet. People always come up to me at the beach telling me what a "great idea" it is.
