how many damn times are people gonna put our EMS persons in danger because of their stupidity??? if you are not a strong swimmer, DO NOT go in the water if its dangerous. Good lord. unnecessary man. http://wtkr.com/2015/09/27/sandbridge-water-rescue-leaves-one-dead-firefighter-in-hospital/
He was going after a kid who made it back in. There were guys out when this was being filmed. THEY said OBNC wasn't allowing anyone in the water.
I hate seeing parents allowing their little kids wade out waist deep and fool around in rough surf. A number of times I've walked up to the parent(s) and politely told them that I surf here quite a bit and one needs to be very careful, things can happen very quickly in these conditions, etc. I do it because I consider it the responsible thing to do. I'd feel terrible if I didn't say anything, and the kids ended up drowning. Besides, they may be from out of town and unfamiliar with the ocean. The parents don't get indignant, they thank me but most just continue to let their little kids to play in the rough surf. Years ago, when we lived in CA and were at a beach near Mugu Rock, I had to pull a friend's little girl out of the surf. She had fallen down and the undertow was grabbing her. It happened so quickly - 2 seconds at most. I reacted before even thinking about what I was doing. You don't think about it until later.
