https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QnySVprIF-A&feature=player_embedded short vid of FB this past Sat. Love it hate it I don't care
good vid. I surfed FB for three years and loved it...but my only point of reference was the gulf. FB is exponentially more consistent than the gulf, but it's actually usually pretty small, weak and/or junky in comparison to pretty much any other area on the east coast. Only got good surf there a few times a year, but, when it did, it was usually perfect barrels.
This past summer was one of the worse here until a couple weeks ago. Definately a fickle break. I've only surfed the Gulf side of Fla. once when I was in the AF. Caught it chest high and peeling with srsly long lines. I was like damn does it break like this all the time? everybody started laughing.
summers are always pancake flat on the gulf...except for during the rare tropical storm. What's crazy is the FL panhandle gulf has perfect sandbars everywhere, but it usually takes a freezing winter cold front to suck up rideable waves (after they pass through, the waves are perfect offshore A-frame barrels). Panhandle water is also usually super clear. Strangely, FB winter air temps are warmer than the gulf (never saw it get below 45 deg)...but FB water is always murky mud.
This is from 2010. Back story is I have a gun I want to paddle into elbow ledge with. I was trying it out before going out to the ledge with it. 5 years later, still have not been to the ledge.
