I know youse are all down the beach doing sand reconne on the flat days, so who here likes to wet a line while they're at it? This time of year gets interesting in No Mo Co. The past few days the Hickory Shad and Albies have been running strong. Post up your hook up here... pics if you got 'em.
Damn, you guys get bonita, little tunny, false albies (whatever you want to call them) this close to shore? They put up a nice fight!
I have had an agreement with fish from the first day I started surfing. I won't pull the out by their faces, if they won't drag me under by my dangling feet. I've never trusted those bastids so I always layed prone on the board. Dangling my ten little piggies seemed like a temptation to them.
My neighbor has been Catching some smallish rock fish in the river and hooking me up (good for fish tacos)...hoping the big ones make it down here this year. Have not been offshore in two years. Bass fish in the back yard and this year has been horrible (15' crappie was my claim this summer). Fished off the beach in June in Kitty Hawk and caught a mullet which we used for flounder bait....nothing. Glad you are on it. Taking time to go fish sounds good about now!
Fish, surf, fish is my weekly schedule. Monday I surfed, Tuesday I fished, today I surfed, tomorrow going out for the last of the bay fluke/flounder. Was bucktailing some nice flounder in the surf for most of September before the big blow. Will fish flounder till they move out then turn to blackfish/tog. In winter I switch to tidal rivers and catch lots of crappie and pickerel.
have u been fishing this summer?have u caught anything other than sandsharks all summer long?i don't get it,before summer we were catching blues like crazy.then summer came and we'd catch like 3-4 sandsharks in 3 hours.first time u catch one its like oh cool a shark lol, then after u catch 12 its like stop eating my fukin bait!!! my father in law been saying now is the season.ofcourse had to wait til it gets cold and windy.we always do night missions,go out around 1 or 2 am and stay til 5 trying to catch the incoming tide.every time I go fishing I need to have a bottle and atleast 2 joints.i couldn't imagine fishing sober,i am not that guy!!but yea in this weather now,its going to be hard to light my spliffs, but seeing ur getting catches and we live in the same area, think its time to break the rods back out.
what state do u live in zippy.been trying to catch the fluke all summer long with no luck, from the sandy hook bay down to manahawakin is nothing but sandsharks all summer long.now that the water is getting colder,i guess the good fish are coming in?lol iv been fishing for like 15 yrs,but I still consider myself a kook fisherman since I only average maybe 20 days a year.
god damn u aint playing around, nice catches.what state do u live in?were u catching those fluke from the surf or u went out in a boat?
I'm in Maryland. Fluke fishing in the bay is only good until early July (in Maryland), that's when the croaker move in and the bigger flounder move out. You have to follow them to the wrecks or deeper drop offs near the beach to catch them in the heat of summer. Once the bay cools in September they move back inshore for a bit as the newly hatched baitfish school up for their journey south. Best fishing is near the inlets in the fall or right along the beach. They can be right in the surf in September, that's when I use a long freshwater spinning rod with six pound test and 1/4 ounce bucktails tipped with gulp shrimp. Slow swim this just above bottom and you will catch them.
The fluke in the picture were taken in the bay from a boat, right over rough shelly bottom. They seem to like hanging around the edges of rough bottom, probably because there is a lot of bait, crabs, minnows etc sitting there.
Also fish the edges of the rip for the best flounder fishing from the beach. Nothing better than feeling that thump as a flounder comes off the bottom and sucks in your jig and settles back down. A couple of turns of the reel, a firm hook set, and its on!
Yep fishing if i'm not surfing. Sunday morning couple hours was OK for me, 4 Blues, Flounder and PITA skate swallowed one of my favorite bucktails. Today Surf!
