Prodigy or reborn master?

A prodigy in any art, is it due to reincarnation? I don't think I surfed in a past life, just dove and swam. It took awhile for me to get even decent. My tai chi instructor told me what I learn this go around will make me a higher level practitioner in the next rebirth cycle. I'm not saying I believe it, but it's believable.
