It is just funny reading all this crap on boadyboarding and surfing....and even the short boarders making jokes on us longboarders!

First, you can't sit here and tell me that at some point in your life (may have been when you were really young) you have never been on a boadyboard and loved every minute of it! Boadyboarding is something to do when the swell is a steep drop. I see more bodyboarders make it out and have fun on a sloppy big day then I do surfers....most guys I see out there get worked while the spongers and launching off the lip cause they can make it!

Second, unless you have road a longboard....you really don't know the enjoyment of it. I tell you now, I would take my 8'10 on a knee high day and work less than what I see some of these shortboarders....and all for what, a 2 second ride. On a log, you can catch such a small wave and still get a nice ride from it! And guess what, WE DON'T WORK AS HARD TO CATCH A WAVE!

And now I see it coming...."You longboarders steal all the waves"! Well, sorry that I am riding a 3 inch thick board that is like a boat on the water! Don't get all emotional when I catch a wave outside and get on it before you do....

I think everyone is missing the concept still....and as many have said in this thread....we are all out there to enjoy the water and have a good time! What is the problem weather your on a sponge, a short or longboard, or just out enjoying the water? Enjoy what mother nature gives us and stop acting like a bunch of little babies!

i had a longboard for 5 years and rode it periodically and never liked it. too boring IMO. personally I'd rather sponge than longboard but to each his own as long as they follow etiquette.

But we can all surf. Obviously given if you have an injury that prevents you from surfing, that doesn't count... but most bodyboarders can surf and surf well! We just choose not to! So keep trying...

I like surfing with body boarders because I know that I can sit deeper and catch everything. They are also much more susceptible to shark attacks. Way to take two for the team.

I watched some kids body surfing, hand boarding and boogie boarding at 10-12' beach break on Oahu and it was the most impressive surfing I've ever witnessed. Its not what you surf but that you surf.

Yep, and I tend to think body boarder's that ride the outside stuff end up with the best waves because the really big sets often catch surfer's inside while we can drop in late on a steep face and ride it.

I am a body boarder and am out amongst surfers all the time (Long Beach)
most people know each other, and there is a mutual respect for all, not getting anyone's way, surf courtesy, etc etc, we all out there for the same reason.!
    I"ve never had a problem....

SJB asked me to post the following......and I just couldn't resist :) LOL

"Hey, anti-sponge surfers who think it's easy. Come and show me how easy it is. I will give anyone until January to come meet me and try and dazzle me. If you do impress me I will take you to Chuck E Cheese. You dudes who said you have done "barrel rolls," "airs," and gotten slotted when you were 8-years-old - BULL****. BULL****. Flopping over on a 1 foot, summer shorebreak isn't a barrel roll. You dudes couldn't even hold an edge, on a sponge, in a dumpy three-foot section. Yeah, no skegs shred hounds. I'll blow all of you dudes out-of the water(woah, not that way, perverts). I am certain of that. Keep talking smack because you guys sure couldn't prove it with action. Keep talking."

And for those of you who get so easily offended, instead of entertained by SJB, you are taking yourself and maybe him too serious. This guy is one of the funniest dudes I've ever "met".

Careful who you associate with, Yourdirtymomma...

Actually SJB's early threads brought me to register to this forum. Oh and spongers, aka speed bumps, my wife out rides me on her body board all day long... I tell her it's because I'm a surfer not a d!ck dragger, but we both know she's just got more skills...

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I would like to share my sentiment on this matter. I started bodyboarding when I was 11 years old in the Dominican Republic. There wasn't much of rivalry between surfers and bodyboarders because people that surfed were already from a higher social status being a third world country and all. After a few years of bodyboarding I would consider myself a pretty good bodyboarder and could handle my in heavy condition's. I have respect for surfers, is surfing harder? Yes I agree its harder to learn to surf then it is to bodyboarding. Inenjoy watching a skilled surfer as much as I enjoy watching a skilled bodyboarder. I also learned surfing etiquette as soon as I started bodyboarding. I am always respectful in the water, polite, and patient in waiting for my wave. I never dripped on anyone, even at the beach I was a local at.
I have many friends that are surfers and I have gained there respect by the way I carry myself. You may have your beliefs about bodyboarders, Yo may think they're annoying, you may think we have no skill, you may feel we shouldn't even be in the line up. That is fine, you are entitled to feel however you want. Now if you ever come across me, and try to insult me, disrespect me, you will soon realize I'm not just some kid on a boogie board, but a full grown man that will earn your respect by any means necessary! I show respect and It demand it back. If we have to fight, we can do that. I like competition, and fighting for me can be fun. I'm not trying to act like some tough guy, I'm actually a nice guy. I have lost a few fights in the past but I'll fight you again, and again, and again until I earn your respect. Luckily I haven't dealt with any mistreatment in the water, maybe it's because I'm 6'0 235 pounds, not a skinny teenager, I also surf in NY, and was born and raised in NYC, not a typical location for surfers lol. I love bodyboarding! It's my personal choice, and its my personal relationship with the ocean.
The bottom line is, I show respect to everyone in the line up, and also respect localism. But if you come at me sideways, you will soon find out and wish you did not. It's a lot easier just being nice. Feel how you want about bodyboarders, but realize I am a man first. I don't take **** from people its not in my character. That is it, have a nice day.

    Good morning Bigcatz,

Welcome to the forum! I see that your new around here- I would suggest that it might be a good idea to start a hello thread to properly introduce yourself. You know- let the guys know where you surf, you fav board, you fav wave and your fav color....

Anyways- no need to get angry around here- although if you need help with your anger- swellinfo.com also provides reliable psychiatric help.

Hey- do you know this guy named Brad? He has anger management problems too. Your not alone. Did you ever get your stuff thrown into the water? Have you ever met anyone to fight in real life?

Have you ever surfed The Belmar (best waves on the contentantal US)

Once again, welcome to the site. Just try to be nice to the guys- I know your anger can easily take over, but they are friendly guys once you get to know them.

    Your new pal

Btw- as a surfer- I don't dislike body boards- or thier abilities.

What would make me dislike them is if they dropped in on me. Which they have a tendency to do so. When they do- I don't get mad. I don't even try to fight them. Heck- I don't even say anything to them. I just casually walk up onto the beach and throw thier beach bag and stuff in the water.
