Is it really that cold?

So I have to make a comment about the amount of people I saw out yesterday with boots and gloves. Even saw 1 or 2 with head gear. It's 62 degrees. I know we all tolerate cold differently, but damn, it's not that cold! I was out for about 3.5 hours in a 3/2 and never once got a chill.

I was cozy in 3/2 no boots and gloves on the banks this past week.

I'll be extending my 3/2 sessions as long as possible but i do like to get in a few sessions with the extra rubber just to start getting acclimated, so maybe that's their game plan?

I will say, this was my day out in the full and it slightly kicked my butt. Even though the waves were kind of small, I notice the added resistance.

Gaff, I would take sunny and warm any day, but I have to deal with what I've got. Forgot to mention, air temp was about 64, winds about 10 to 12 mph

Depends where you are, zero. Up in New England, water and air calls for boots and gloves and 4/3s; longer sessions if you do.

I surfed Mission Beach on Saturday at first light. Air was 56. My toes were numb by the time i got to the water - Really wish I had boots.

I can understand that up there, but I am in Delaware. 2 weeks ago I rocked a spring suit for about 5 hours (only because I didn't bring my 3/2 full), but there were plenty of dudes out that day with gloves and boots on, too.

Glad you had a session. Surf here today is rather large but messy. I was unable to get out as I am having an automatic generator installed, so I am dealing with plumbers, electricians and gas company people. I hope to hit it tomorrow, hopefully....

It wasn't the best session, but anytime in the ocean is good. Hope all goes well with the generator and good luck getting some in tomorrow!

I surfed Lower Trestles last week and there was a guy out there on Friday morning wearing a fullsuit, hood and boots but no gloves. The water was probably 67* and the air was in the upper 50s that morning. I was sweating in a 3/2 and my son was wearing a short arm full.

Two weeks ago (last time I was out) I was wearing a 2 mil jacket, but I saw people in spring suites, 4/3s and one guy just trunking it. I'll prolly be in my 4/3 and most likely booties, this weekend because of air temps, low forties in the AM. I'd rather be too warm than cold. I won't wear gloves though until water temp is low 50's. This is in NC.

Saturday was the last day of our California trip. We were at Ocean Beach, SanDiego at first light and I have to admit it was really cold that morning until the sun got up.

such fluctuations up there. We are still currently in HOE (hell on earth) conditions and still need our air-conditioned suits to stay out more than an hour. water hasn't dropped below 80 and air still hanging in the mid-high 80s. Really missing some carolina fall weather right about now. VAS all next week should cool things down a bit.

    Liners.

I'm in boots now up in RI, no gloves necessary. I could see a hood yesterday with chilly air and 25 moh pffshores, but I didn't wear one.

fine with no boots and gloves and a 4/3 in rhode island. Booked up to NH last night and after 2 hours in my 4/3 with boots and gloves (no hood) I was shivering my ass off and contemplating buying a new 5 mil. Forgot how cold New England gets even when its still warm.

Yeah, noticeable difference usually north and south of the Cape due to the GS.

Jersey is still amazingly warm! I was in a 3/2 and boots the other day was completely fine! And I'm usually the first one to get cold...

I remember being in a 4/3 last year at thanksgiving... So I guess we can start to expect the cold to set in soon... But for now we should enjoy the 3/2 weather!!

About 3 weeks ago - I saw a guy in jersey with a 5/4 or a 4/3 with his hood ON the whole time! And it looks like a new suit too! I don't understand- it was one of those warm Days too!

Btw the water in Belmar is always warm- all year round!

    Thanks to the labradors!
