Parking is the real secret about a lot of secret spots it seems, especially given that a lot of fancy towns take up ocean front access.

Anyone have any good getting your car towed while you were out surfing stories?

Never towed, but there's one spot that requires a pretty long-azz walk.

The spot is pretty amazing. It's a wind-sheltered point below clifftop mansions where they shoot a lot of movies. Back in the day, I would surf it late into the night from the outdoor set lighting when they were shooting scenes in the back yard. The wave peaks on submerged kelp-covered rocks and rolls into a bay in a nice little right-hander. No barrel, but a workable face. Depending on the tide and the swell, you can sometimes make it past a rocky section and ride all the way into the sheltered bay where it kind of peters out. Very consistent wave. I used to live just a few miles away and I would bike there.

After I moved, I had to drive, and that was a trick. There's a little parking lot about a mile away, but it is usually full, and the length of time you can park there is too short for a good session.

So, I'd park on a random (super rich) neighborhood street another mile away, where the "no parking" signs ended. Suit up behind the car, then start the long walk in. I'd stroll down the middle of the street, board in hand, because the yellow line paint was easier on the feet. I passed a dozen mansions and estates before getting to the dirt path to the edge of the cliff. Then I'd climb down a long metal stairway in the cliffside. At the bottom, depending on the tide, was either a tough hop over 300 yards of big ankle-twisting cobblestones, or a quick run across the sand below them if the tide was low enough. There was one surf spot at the bottom of the ladder that always had a crowd when it was working. If it wasn't breaking to my tastes, I'd keep going.

After a mile walk across a secret beach under clifftop mansions, I'd get to the sandstone ledge where the cliff cut off the beach. Zip up the suit and paddle around the point to the spot.

Surf for a few hours until the sun set and the stars came out, then make the walk back in the dark.

I never trek out to that spot anymore; I have better and easier options available now, but I'll always remember those long lonely hikes below the cliffs. I'd see whales, dolphins, crazy stars, I had ash from big wildfires fall on me like snow and I even watched a huge distant electrical storm one day light up the sky for hours. Pretty memorable spot.

I know exactly what spot your taking about the waves are 7/10 on a good swell but the addition of the scenery, homes, cliffy landscape make it really enjoyable to paddle out there.

you ever go to the spot that shall not be named 10 mins north of there? EC trestles i refer it as

Had my tires flattened a couple of times in Baja because I declined on paying somebody to "watch my car". Wound up paying them to re-inflate my tires. You *will* pay, one way or another.

Never been towed, though (knock on wood).

Got a boot on my car at WB this spring. Had a solid 45 minuts left on the meter when I got back to the car too. Apparently the guy who does the ticketing "has a photographic memory, and remembered my car...."

Lucky I was able to hitch a ride to the office b/c I was at the south end and that would have been like a 25 minute walk.

Had to drop $250 to get it removed.

All told, I've had 4 different cars and gotten at least 25 tickets in thet last ten years at WB, none of which I paid.

Now i'm all square and ended up getting out of 15+ tickets by my math (i suk at math). In the end, I think I came out on top.

"And the sign said long hair freaky people need not apply''.
Been awhile since I last heard that song. High school days. Enjoyed hearing it again.

Some of the no parking signs around the VB Oceanfront, although not as bad as the one(s) above, can be confusing. It's as if they're trying to nail you. Entrapment?

LOL, dude, we're not talking the same spot, mine is near Los Angeles. But, yeah, waves are 7/10. It's not great, just holds the wind off good. Not that the posh trust fund a-holes who surf it would care, they don't work and have to deal with afternoon onshores.

I was wracking my brain trying to think about any secret spots north of there that work like trestles and coming up with nada. Funny.

I'm headed out to my secret island in the far Western Pacific. I'll bring back stories and maybe photos.

Never been towed for parking in a sketch spot to surf...but has anyone else ever run into the situation where your car is towed and you go to the impound lot and they demand cash -the EXACT amount of the bill, change included?? So if the fine/bill is $245.36 if you don't have that amount down to the penny -in cash, they won't release the car? No cards, no "breaking an extra bill for the change" nothing. Had to pay an extra day of impound fees because of this once although I suspect its illegal.

^^^^Had a similar experience once. Fock tow truck drivers and the companies they work for. They all seem shady as fock and drive around coked up in snowstorms, almost got hit by them at least three times.
