Yeah getting in shape is a problem for me, I know that. I'm stiff like Frankenstein when I'm out there recently. Been doing 9 hour work days and then home construction/remodeling at night & weekends.

My quad is weird and maybe because it's too long and my back foot isn't always far enough over the fins but it doesn't catch speed unless it's at least 4'+. Even the builder said that was normal for quads so maybe if I had a smaller one I would have better results. Turning isn't the issue, it's getting speed on small waves, just bogs downs unless those fins are locked in at a good angle. I'll consider EPS, they do float nicely.

    Sweet, thanks!

that being said, nothing wrong with a long board man! the glide is most definitely bomb and all those little gromy kooks doing their kick turns on 4foot9's in knee high mush look gayer then a goose at a guys only circus' ole show

ya better believe if its below chest high and or if theres no guts behind the oceans gift, im out there on my 7+ foot single fin or phat fish.

Some of my very skilled friends have busted out a Tomo from time to time in small to stomach hi surf. They are short and stu, bby, really hi tech and come in different shapes and sizes, but they fly in junk if you can really surf.

I agree with this....a short wide fish gets speed in small waves in knee/waist mush than a 7 foot egg or funshape. Wide round nose, relaxed rocker, reconsider quad fins (they work great in mush), and most importantly (IMO) wide tail.

lost couch potato is a great shape. its basically a 6' longboard. catches anything, fast as hell, and with the right fins you can hula-hoop turn that thing from just about anywhere... seaworthy fins are the ticket.

let me be the voice of dissent: get a wave catching machine of a groveler. waist high days are my FAVORITE days to ride a shortboard. Im 35 and my boards keep getting shorter. LSD Tex is my favorite piece f sporting equipment I have ever owned, Superbrand Fling gets rave reviews, lost puddle jumper is really fun, pyzel rat skull looks fun, JS makes a pier pony that has more volume per linnear inch than anything else with that shape i have ever seen....

and of course there is the walden mega mini kook machine, which is fun af and picks up ankle slappers....

Ditto! Just wanted you to know that you are not the only one who thinks this amigo! I have surfed a lot of different waves in a lot of different places and generally speaking catch more and have more fun on a longboard.

I think you guys convinced me, I would much rather go with a short wide fish than an egg or fun shape. I used to have a Quiet Flight 7'4" fun board and it caught a lot of waves but wasn't that fun.

Cool, I'll look into those. The couch potato looks pretty cool. What size do you think i would go with?

    Bings are awesome for sure

That was my next step, I have to pick up my motorcycle from Sun Cycles which is right next store. I'll pop in and talk to them.

def agree. if i can't catch it on the swee pea, it's probably not worth going. and it holds up to head high and above.

For the east coast? Somebody said it here before and I agree, you only need 4 boards:

    -9 ft+ noserider longboard
-7 ft or 8 ft funshape
    -5'8" fish
and a 6-2" to 6-6" step up board that collects dust only to be used on the bigger overhead days

You definitely do not need a 7-8 foot funboard. Nobody I know even owns one, or if they do, its the one they bought to learn on and then stopped using.

That's pretty much what happened to my last fun board which I finally ended up selling.

So I am 5'6", and at the time I was 180lbs. I had a Couch Potato at 6', which was 43 liters. I used Seaworthy fins and it was amazing. It was like having a mini long board. It was WAY more volume than I need, but I got this thing after a super flat summer when I was so sick of long boarding that I wanted any alternative to dragging 9' to the beach every time. I nabbed 5 on that a few times, and for such an oversized board it really did turn well for me too. You can turn that board from anywhere. It was a fun piece of equipment.

They make a smaller version this year called the Bean Bag I think... But the LSD Tex and the Puddle Jumper are really awesome shapes.
