Did that Richie rich neighborhood finally put the end on street parking? I thought they tossed the public a few crumbs and built a tiny parking lot. Oh and gave us a tiny little sliver of on-street parking with ridiculous hours, like no parking after 6 p.m. all summer long!
There's minimal to zero parking on the S side of the inlet. Before Hurricane Isabel, I had a key and access code for The Lighthouse Rest. One day I was there at daybreak to service one of their steamers. I sucked at 1st st but was peeling on the other side. I jumped the jetty and paddled across the inlet. I neglected to think about the drift. Luckily I was able get at ride back when I got to the fence at Dam Neck and Croatan. That would have been a looooooooooong walk.
Back when it broke on the N end, the drift would be weird. It would go on way on the inside and the other when you got out. Those unable to get out had a "walk of shame". If we saw the drift being fast, we'd park another vehicle around 64th st. and go out at 85th.
