This is sort of inspired by Pashreds honeymoon post. How many of you want to surf w your wife/significant other ? If they surf already thats different. I dont want my wife in the line up. Sitting on the beach yes but not out in the waves. When i was younger I thought it would be a good thing and attempted to teach an ex. What an fn disaster. She said she wanted to learn but as a lot of people find out its not that easy to do and to teach is especially difficult when your tryin to teach someone at a inconsistent beach break. I like my time out there to get away from it all. I also taught myself. I had a desire to learn it and went as much as I could and eventually i got the hang of it. Yes I got pointers along the way but nobody pushed me into waves or even recommended boards or where to go.
Hands down the best "couples surf" is to paddle out a 12" tanker and tandem surf. Who cares if you catch waves. The paddle out is the best...with bumps on the horizon!!!
My wife and I sponge together. The one occasion I boarded and and she sponged, she sat inside and snaked all my waves! That being said, I've been trying to get her to take a lesson (NOT from me!!! Tried that with skiing before we were married; it took her 10 years to ski again, with lessons) so we can surf small days together. Actually thinking about a tropical surf camp excursion for our 30th anniversary. I can't see her going out in the winter, or any waves over knee high so I'll still get plenty of me time.
Before my chick & I started dating we were neighbors in Mission Beach. End up taking her out tandem one summer night and catch a perfect wave. Nice mellow little 2-3' left that reeled all the way to the beach. We started dating soon after that This was on a 6'8 funshape too. 2 Grownas s adults on a 6'8 aint easy!!!
Not judging anyone else but hell to the no. Surfing is my time. She has her things and I have mine. You gotta have a little give and take. To each their own.
No. I like having different hobbies, doing stuff with own friends, and then sharing the adventures we both had separately over dinner later on.
