Are Drop-In Hop-Offs The Norm at Your Break?

Question for all you clowns out there:

So it seems like whenever I watch a clip or a video of a SoCal surf break, particularly the crowded well known ones I almost always see the following:

Dude in position who has priority, takes off on wave, makes the bottom turn and lines up for the ride/ maneuver, all of a sudden some clown looks down the line, sees dude successfully riding the wave and drops in. Clown pumps once or twice then hops over the back of the wave. This process can occur multiple times on the same wave, occasionally several clowns will drop in at the same time, each will ride for a couple seconds and then kick out/ hop off.

This is seemingly done intentionally. The drop-in clowns clearly see dude on the wave and they go anyway even though dude is not in danger of eating it, there's no difficult section he has to get around etc.

Is this garbage the norm at your break and what kind of nonsense is this?? Is this a natural result of the competition/ arse-holery at hyper crowded breaks? What would you do if say 3 clowns dropped in on you simultaneously, on purpose, only to kick out a few seconds later as if it were no big deal brah?

Clowns. I haven't dealt with this very much at my home break. not to say it doesn't happen. A couple times this past summer, but every time the person who accidentally dropped in, apologized. I guess I have been lucky. I have seen the videos you speak of and I am glad I do not have to deal with that

Yeah Zero, that's the thing. If you accidentally drop in, because you didn't see the other surfer, or whatever that is forgivable. We've all accidentally dropped in on someone or came really, really close to it -there's a bunch of reasons that can happen (strong offshores throwing spray into the eyes, not paying attention etc). But its a whole different thing to see the person already on the wave, and drop in anyways. I don't get it. But based on the videos I've seen, its almost like its an acceptable practice at some breaks.

Some people are just d_cks! I understand if it accidentally happens and as long as the person is apologetic, I am cool. I certainly have done it by mistake and I always tell the person, my bad. But I would never do it just to be an A hole!

I always do it to be an A-hole. Why else do it?? In fact, I always state to the complaining offended, "I did NOT come out here to watch you surf.". For some reason, they do not like that??

To piggy-back on this. Has anyone ever been dropped in on by a girl and said nothing? But will always say something if it's a dude? I ask cuz I go surfing with this friend that's a girl and she's not too good at surfing but drops in on guys all the time and they never say a word lol. It's not fair!

Okay, if someone is out there being a d_ck, I don't have a problem dropping in on them to let them know there are people out there who will not put up with their sheet! Yesterday I had a dude who kept paddling right up on me, but he never dropped in on me. We didn't even speak to each other, but we kind of took turns

HA HA HA HA, I am guilty of this. Towards the end of the summer I was out and about 5 dudes and 4 chicks paddled out right near me. It was a fun 3-4 swell. The girls (in their damn tight a$$ bikinis) were balls to the wall. They were paddling for the bigger waves and going face first over the falls almost every time. It really was a great show!

that's why I love jersey,a crowded day at my break is like 6 people max.plenty of waves, plenty of sandbars,if u know what ur doing and not one of those kooks that looks for the most crowded spot to paddle out to,u can have ur choice of gems

Only locals can get away with such shenanigans. Some get there sh!t thrown in the ocean. I have seen it happen to others at local breaks. Usually it's the out of town clown with a half set of balls that wakes up from his ego endused coma drop and realizes he can be out-shred.
    But sometimes it's surf buddies.
