Were you on the north, south end, or middle?

I'll be there tomorrow around mid morning if it's good and hasn't blown out yet. Gray bodyboard. Long hair. Round kicks fins, one orange one gray. Probably south side, but wherever's biggest.

    Hey Speed!

I was at the north end of the beach, right up against the jetty on the south side of the harbor.

My daughter and I looked at it there today, it was way choppy with the big winds.

I might see you there! I'm a big bald guy with all black wetsuit, and black Custom X bodyboard.

    Hey, Speed!

Looking at the surf forecast, I think I'm dawn patrolling it tomorrow at **lv*r *tr**d.

I'll try to get there about sunrise at 7am.

It's looking too windy and choppy after that.

You're probably right, but I can't get out there until 10 at the earliest. Hopefully the wind holds off with the approaching front. Lemme know how it was. Probably pretty slow on the deep tide, I imagine.

    Hey, Speed!

    Great seeing you today.

I've never been boarding down at that south end, it looked fun and you caught some good ones!

Hey sherm, it was good to meet you. The south side is peakier than the north side so you'll see more boogs and short boarders there while the logs stick to the north end. The only complaint I have is that it rarely barrels there. Like yesterday, its usually just a steep drop and not much else. Paddle out along the jetty like I did. The rip makes the paddle out a cinch.

Wind held off until noon and size stayed nice as the tide backed off. Merry Xmas, dude. See u around there and cstreet: the one break in the 805 whose name is fine to post.

But Boogie Boarding is so easy !!!

All the dudes on here could hop on a sponge and out-Hubbard Jeff Hubbard. Their first time.

Buy skegs and a nose handle.

    Oxnard?

Wow, so the Darren Cruz's of the world have demurred, huh?

I support California localism even the queers in Palos Verdes. I love rich "tough guys."

Hey I have another question for all y'all:

The past few years I have come across numerous beginners who claim to be out in big surf. Like, I'm pretty sure Spicoli can't handle anything over four foot.

Oh, I don't know I guess that's the magic of the internet.

i would be a lair if i wasnt intimidated by 12-14 foot surf.. hell ive been in waves that size over reef and said fuk it im getting out, close outs are worth it. but one day ill surf it like a 6 foot wave, just have to have SUICIDAL TENDENCIES!!

oh and those locals dont do sht, i dare them to fk with me when i paddle out all faded out, i wont throw rocks at them but i might follow them home and burn down their house, or burn a surfboard cross or 2 in their yard. theyll get the point maybe but ive herd Californians are pretty fkn dumb and egotistical...soooo we shall see.

I brought the board with me while driving up the coast to see relatives, and got in a session at Carmel Beach yesterday morning in 5-8ft, 4 star conditions.

The water was a chilly 57 degrees, but clear, smooth, and beautiful, and that's a cool beach with a great vibe.

Once, I angled the takeoff left, and was able to go down the line of the wave, out on the smooth shoulder with the smooth hiss of the water under my board.
I was able to see right through the wave on my left, and clearly see the bottom through the water in front of me.

That was the wave of the day.

I can't really say exactly if it was pulling up more on the non-wave side of the board, sliding forward on the board after catching the wave, or something else that really helped me track sideways down the face of the wave instead of skipping sideways out in front of it, but it seems I'm getting the hang of that.

So, thanks to everyone for the advice.

Hey Sherm. I haven't been on this forum in years but I happened to read your thread. Stoked to hear about your progress. I haven't ridden Carmel in years but have fond memories of fun sessions there on the boogie. Excellent description of that wave. Carry on, keep the stoke, and don't listen to the haters and trolls.

Just to add a little idk what kind of tail you got but if you want a little looser board that's easier to carve a bat tail is better. The crescent tails can be a pain when your first learning maneuvers they have alot more bite on the wave.

Sherm, you still alive? It's pumping! Going for DP at **lv** **r**d tomorrow, hopefully before the rain hits. Northside was killer today, so I'm going back there. I'll be out around 0630ish.

I was trying to analyze how I make bottom turns, and you just gotta feel it. Pull this, push that, shift the weight like so--it's all pretty meaningless. Carving and scooping during the drop is about subtle movements unless you are air-dropping right into the pit or making a big maneuver at speed. Then you need radical efforts to stick it.

Sounds like you're getting it, though.

I haven't sponged since I was 12 but I'm pretty sure you have to drag your d to keep from skipping sideways.

Sherm, glad things are going pretty well for you and that you're stoked. Tons of swell in SoCal this week and next. Your breaks look as solid as any.
