Words can not describe how bad I feel reading about how these people feel they have no choice but to ruin one of the natural wonders of the world. Worse than ISIS destroying 1000 year old statues, as the wave is far more ancient, and way more surfable. Ordinary people...I was just following orders....

Can't one of the Zinn brothers buy it and keep it as a preserve, and pay the local town folk to keep it nice and call it PuraVidaLand or something? Damn!

I would never go to Pavones. At least not until there is a Marriott Resort, or a Ritz Carlton. Hiltons are for hillbillies.
After all, where can a person get a decent "spa" if those resorts aren't there??
What? You expect me to live in a shack for a week or two? Or worse yet....camping??

I think the mayor got it right. The locals take the beauty of the surroundings for granted.

The developer spun the sewage topic very skillfully, but I think that will be his downfall. Hopefully it puts the development out of business before doing to much damage to the environment.

good lord, i heard you said Camping... how primitive and savage. no civilized man or woman would ever engage in such barbaric venture. why that isnt sanitary at all, and to think... there are still people who do? how vulgar.

Only a matter of time. Seems like all good things come to an end in this world. Hopefully as HH says the development stumbles and the locals can pull together to preserve (such an awesome place). $$$$ will persevere eventually

Maybe the locals will do as they did a few years ago when ICE was putting the cell tower up on the hillside....knock down the bridges so they can't get their equipment in :) or maybe just take over the dam condo complex and take back the land. After all, it is the jungle and the poliza fuerza aren't exactly in high numbers down there!!!

Or better yet, having to take a Cornish game hen, putting some lemon pepper seasoning on it with half a lemon up it's butt, wrapping it in tin foil and tossing it right into the redneck camp fire for a while. Then pulling it out almost burning your "spa" fingers and having to eat that damn delicious thing on a picnic table... GROSS! Now I know what the poor people are doing!!

CR has changed a ton in the last decade. No stopping the machine, they like money down there too. It is sad to see, but alas, what the **** are we going to do about it. Frankly I would like to buy one of those condos. Does that make me a bad person?

PR has changed as well and NOT for the better. Too many Americans down there now, and of course, every one of them tells you they were the one that "discovered" Rincon before anybody else--because they got there early in 1990!!! They are such "path blazers"!!!
    Oh, really??

Really no one, including us, should have a say in this matter. I"m against development there but this is up to locals not foreigners. This is their land and we are guests there. They should put it to a vote by locals and I'm sure the locals would vote against it especially as it hasn't really created many jobs and could cause sewage leaks. The whole property rights issue around the River sounds sketchy and the developer is up to something.

I think you would be wrong--most of the native locals in my travels have ALWAYS voiced approval of development as part of "progress", better income for them. The ones that do not, are usual recent transplants (usually American) who label themselves as locals (they are not), and want to close the door on others, after they made it in. Not much different than wealthy Jersey Shore homeowners that want to close of sections of streets that give access to the beaches, etc.
Very few birth natives object; those that do, are way outnumbered.

If that's the case, then native locals have the say and the project would go ahead. I would assume that transplants have the right to vote though if they are now citizens there. It's tough in countries where people are just trying to survive and feed their kids. We come in and want it to be less crowded for surfing and to enjoy the scenery. It's all self-interest, it really is still the native locals lands. It is crazy how locals go be for development in some countries but in Hawaii all locals (citizens) and true Hawaiian natives are both against development

Always remember this, jetty-- with the human species, money talks, bull**** walks. Always. No exception. monetary gain comes in different forms. Those hawaiians against development, already made their wealth--they are trying to keep others away from their wealth, what ever the form is.

That isn't always the case. Many native Hawaiians don't have much but are against development. As you say though, this could be because they now have jobs from past development (hotels, etc.) It's crazy if these countries were never discovered or visited. The true natives would still be living off the land and be self sufficient. They wouldn't know anything about money and the outside world. A more simple life would probably be better for all. We talk about progress but you wonder if the old way of the life was the ticket.
