If we procreate, which we just might, I pray he / she is interested in the water and wants to surf with me, once able. I'll expose the child to the ocean at an early age so hopefully it sticks lol, if not, well, i'll find a way, because hey.... I just want to surf...

I have found that if I plan my quiver/wetsuits and keep them prepared, watch SI and beach cams just faintly recalling that I want/need to ride ocean waves then I can maintain a degree of sanity and contentment whilst grinding out a living/running children around/parenting/fixing delapidated home/autos and keeping other interest (I like to build jalopies, dirt bikes and consume cheap beer in the process) that it is like rediscovering why I love this surfing thing so much all over again when I finally get to consummate . Sometimes it is a struggle, especially when your friends go on surfari and leave you to suffer, but planning your own surf trip to have something to look forward to helps. Make surfing your one and only obsession will result in mental illness, it just will drive you nuts. Seen it happen lots. Get it while it's on and then move on but don't forget the joy (how could you?).
And progeny surfing? They might if you do but more importantly they will if their peers do it. They will be embarrassed by their folks, that's just the way it is.

HAHA I'll keep that in mind, I clicked that link and watched the population fluctuated real time, was kinda weird. Oh, and thanks for the positive vibes! Now get those tools put away :)

My plan is "just don't get fat". How many times have seen a new guy on here talking about how they surfed years ago got married, had kids, quit surfing, etc.... Now they want to get back into it but the reflexes aren't as fast and the boards aren't as buoyant.

If you guys are thinking about having a kid, have a kid. It's the only way to watch your grandkids surf when you can't.

I with you... I'm almost a year in to being a dad and I don't have a problem getting in the water when I want to... Is it less than before? Yes... But not a lot. And it's mostly because I'm something else I'd rather be doing like playing in the snow with my kid.
If I remember correctly your chick likes hanging on the beach while you surf. Mine is the same way. Now there's just a kid to play with on the beach. I actually enjoy it more now than before...

I don't remember if your wife works, but if it's possible let her stay home with the kid. It will definitely pay dividends in surf time for you.

That's a good plan to have, mine is to not get any fatter lol But I hear ya, definitely won't let that happen, now that I live near the beach that shouldn't be an issue. It was part of the plan to get settled where we want to be long term first and then talk about kids.

Having a kid to chase around would be more entertaining for her than waiting around for me to get wave of the day and go home that's for sure! Plus, I haven't built a sand castle in years, so there's that to look forward to. As far as work / home situation, we both currently work from home.

Up here in the north north country, our wetsuits shrink every year after a kid is born. But us guys, we remain an Adonis, of course. But I was unaware that wetsuits would shrink so much every year......

Faulty neoprene. I'm sure you can get a refund.
