Anyone else have one of these fins decide to jump ship on you for no apparent reason? I lost one this past weekend and not one of the cheap ones either. Never hit bottom or myself with it. It just wasn't there anymore.

When I run the fcs2's I always put one set screw in each fin as a safety net. Better safe than sorry , Ya know!!

If you have the FCS2 system you can still use the original FCS fins. Like was said, there are screw holes there.

Not a fan of the FCSII system. Too many "moving parts." But they're selling, so people must like them.

The system is designed for changing fins out without a key. No other advantage... only disadvantages. This means you're either the type that changes fins in the middle of a session, or you're not capable of holding on to a key when you go to the beach or travel. The seconds it takes to turn a grub screw 3 or 4 times is inconsequential. It takes me longer to put sunscreen on my face.

For me, once I know what fins I like, I stick with them. I don't change fins out. I prefer to change boards if anything.

I was not sold on them from day one so never built a board with them. Whole design just screams problems to me. My theory on the whole system is that FCS came out with these for the sole reason to create a fin system that required a fin that was very unique and that could not be recreated without obviously infringing on their patent. With the 2-tab system there were new boxes and fins starting to become available as quality and inexpensive alternatives and they were going to start losing market share if they didn't reinvent the wheel.

As to the OP's lost fin, my guess would be your leash caught the fin just right as it came tight and popped it out. Use the screws.

I've had the issue of FCS fins falling out of the FCS II fin boxes, but not FCS II fins falling out. Don't trust putting your original FCS designed fins into the boxes. FCS did a cheap fix to try and make them work. The grub screw holes don't even line up with the indents on the fins with the outside fins.

I'll be slowly switching to futures as I get new boards down the road. FCS pisses me off.

Why would anybody NOT use the set screws?? Dumb, plain dumb. Oh....you want to be "cool"; I get it.
Did not use the screws?? You deserved losing the fin!! Sorry, but true.

    NEXT!!!

FCS II boxes don't come with screws. Neither do the fins. The system is screwless and flawed. I'm going to start putting a screw in the back hole to see if it helps.

Yup, I get it. In the future, if it doesn't have set screws don't buy it, no matter the hype. Marketing people suck. They should be put in a room with WhalesRus so he can rape them.....

Well if you look at it from a design standpoint, it is designed to fail at some point. It basically is a bar that flexes and threads through a "bead" for lack of a better term. The pressure exerted on the fin tab is what keeps it in place. Over time it will wear and lose its spring pressure. My son has this setup on his Firewire Spitfire and although it is super tight at the moment, it will no doubt fail over time. Quick fin changes are a gimmick, its not like the key is cumbersome to carry in a wetsuit or even swimming trunks. BTW if your gonna put the screw in the back you might as well put it in the front too. I dont see the point in putting it just in the back.. Just my .02 cents. Also, you can use the regular two tab fins in them but I believe you have to use a spacer too.

    All good points. I agree.

    I don't think a spacer is needed.
