That's pretty wild man. And being able to focus medicine like that can have all kinds of other possibilities beyond pain management.

Ran into an old acquaintance of mine a couple years ago lost his job and went back to working for a defense contractor. Told me he couldn't give details (classified RnD type stuff) but the things he was working on were so far out there, really mind blowing. And on the edge of what he felt comfortable working on ethically.

    Real life man bear pigs?!?

I recently read (kind of off topic, but w/e, it's SI - Nothing's relevant)
DNA storage devices that hold (whats a Terrbyte x infinity?)..a lot of Data.

Do you think, we'll be able to start downloading driver's that have ALL the information we'll ever need. Part robot part human...

Oh for sure, there's probably so much research taking place that we don't know about... But that's the kicker tho, and exactly what sparks all the conspiracy theories man it's the secrecy. It gets the imagination running pronto. But yeah from what I was reading they want to make organ tissue regeneration possible as a next step (I'm guessing out of several possible directions) its definitely impressive, at the very least.

Never mind the robots, unlock your DNA's full potential through experimenting with substances made illegal in the 60's... They don't want you to activate your direct line with the universe (if you don't like using God in a sentence) because very soon the current government and its policies will be deemed obsolete and tyrannical. I'm just saying, all we are taught to do is to work for the man because we need money to survive. Take away money - and you're helpless. Man... Money is paper, it's not even real, like gold or diamonds.. Money has a number, they say your numbers are void - and you're broke man. we're all constantly in their pocket. Modern day slavery, being spoon fed things they deem "acceptable" for us to know. But hey I'm just a fockin towel..

    Fear the manbearpig!

What if all that "junk" DNA in our bodies actually has a wealth of information stored in it?

Yup. I try to be an open minded skeptic. I'll hear people out, but I need to see real proof.

Another reason why I want to stay above ground as long as possible, to see what humans come up with next. The next generation of telescopes will be able to pinpoint and analyze earth and near-earth size planets. I hope before I kick off they find not only habitable worlds but the tell-tale signs of civilization. Finally prove that we are not alone.

You see the venture Hawking is getting into with the objective of creating nano-probes that we can accelerate to 20% of the speed of light? Could get to Alpha Centauri in 20 years. Combine that with communication based on quantum entanglement and we could see pics of another star and it's planets.

I don't know about your DNA jabber, you definitely smoke too much herb man. Are you down with the Terrence Mckenna space mushroom sh*t? Do you invest meaning in the the fibonacci sequence and fractals, aside from them evidencing the sheer efficiency of nature?

As far as the money goes... I couldn't agree more about modern day slavery. People think we've come so far from Monarchy and Serfdom, but have we really? The serf can now purchase his land but he must still work for the nobleman to make that purchase possible. Instead of one monarch we have many. Instead of one nations serfs, we have the serfs of the world, manufacturing our trinkets and tablets for a pittance, while they poison their bodies and environments, all so we can pay $700 for a new Iphone, instead of the true economic cost, which would likely be thousands,if accounting for the costs of environmental degradation and 'human capital.'

Needless, I say more. If you believe this stuff, why do you work so much, and surf so little? And don't tell me 'so I can buy my way out,' like Archie. There is no escape. you either live against the grain, or go with it.

Man, this question would probably be a great thread. I honestly find myself all too often torn between "the grain". It's unfortunate that I work to damn much and miss just chilling and taking in all that nature has to offer. F'n rat race is real. I have contemplated walking away and return to a subsistence life of waves...ugh, gotta get ready for the grind today and hope the evening sesh pans out.

Yes, I do see your point.
On a geological time scale, humans have been here but a blink of an eyelid. One cannot expect us to have all the answers to the universe if, in fact, we have learned to think somewhat scientifically only in the last 2-300 years. The attempt to explain the Universe is entertainment for some very bright humans, (Hawkins, Galileo, Copernicus, Etc). It is indeed a worthwhile attempt; who knows where it will lead us before we evolve out of existence?? And we will disappear sooner or later. As for going surfing, I do all the time--it has been a worthwhile pursuit for "purr vida", good health, fun, and lots of bikinis!!

the only science I can truly stand behind without skeptic is Newtons third law. For every action there is an equal opposite reaction.

Youre gonna vaccinate for something... you are going to have cases of side affects
Youre gonna eat bad food... youre gonna run the risk of being sick
Youre gonna live one the edge... youre gonna have a blast or become seriously injured.

I like to dive headfirst into things without thinking about repercussions. In my opinion, a lot of questions being asked today and worked through science are on the basis of fear rather than interest. Are we really moving forward in our own evolution if every decision we make is because we are afraid of being out of control?

idk man, it kinda sounds like you got it all figured out. but i enjoy leaving everything on the plate until there is solid proof for or proof against a theory. i wouldnt dismiss anything just because im told to or am too impatient to wait for a manifestation. there's madness to order, perhaps, or perhaps order to the madness. if you think you've discovered something more plausible - thats fine too.
thing is, you can run controlled environment psychological tests on mass populations and yield results in fractal patterns. some brief examples of such research are: presidential candidate elections and the stock market.
on an individual scale such things would be impossible to notice or measure in any adequate way because, you're right, there's grains and just too many variables. en mass, however, certain patterns occur due to "the herd" instinct and general tendencies of modern day psychological process.
now this begs my questions: are we taught these processes.. in a sense - are we taught to think and feel and react a certain way, or is this information genetic? is there a dfference? is what CAN be taught to a human being also genetically blueprinted. im drifting off.

Newtons 3rd law applies to human psychosis as well. every action theres a reaction. you may be a vivd individual, thinking, walking, "knowing", right? but in a herd of a few million your individualism is effectively reduced to just that - a fraction or a possible variation, in no way, sadly, of any global importance.
then, when the herd begins to shift around, move....act and react, if you will... certain tendencies in psychological process can be adequately confirmed, based on empirical evidence: everyone around me is...lets say a democrat in NY, right? bernie sanders and ****. lets say im a republican... who'll win? bernie. so... wtf did I do? cause a ripple at most. not that im too concerned with it. im definitely not gonna end my life about it, so...
next example i gave would be the stock market. did you know that there are large financial institutions that specialize in nothing else but coding and implementing algorithmic trading machines into the market, to sway the price action in their desired direction? let me give you an example:
you buy AAPL (apple) $100/share right? the price starts going down with SPY 500 fluctuating on worldwide news, im obviously simplifying. BUT. the price lets say goes down to $90 ... you, and everybody else who started their position at 100 is feeling a little burn in the balls and start thinking about getting out for stop loss. now THERE ARE machines at play that will drive the price down to 85 - get some people out, then to 80 - get more people out..and continue to do so almost intelligently as they see that the volume of the stop losses getting kicked out at any given (already artificial and under-market) price point is lets say above 25%. when the number of stops ran is satisfactory - Market makers are satisfied with taking the 5-10 cent spread of your 10, 15, whatever $$$ - the rest goes back to AAPL, THEN the price goes back to market valuation. thats how you money goes to the rich. just saying. do this every day, EVERY share. you get the point.
if you now scale WAAAY back and look at statistics per lets say a million people, you get verifiable data that people have been exiting and reacting to price action in ...you guessed it - in fractals and Fibonacci's. im not even making this up, its crazy.

i agree with this, and i think we're cultivated based on the fear-base being spoon fed to us. one of such ideas is that we need to hold on to life for dear life.. instead of letting nature run its course, naturally. mortal nonetheless... but damn its so frightening to not being able to know whats after all this.
this is the grip that we all GIVE to our despotic lords. here, we're scared. gives us shelter, give us religion. give us hope. we'll slave.

mmmm bikinis... what do you think separates Hawking, Galileo, Copernicus etc and Barry Cuda? why them and not you? you know what im saying? thinking forward is striving to create god out a human. because we want to be him/her. we lack control - god HAS control. so - not to be afraid we need to become god. am i thinking right here?

    yeah dude

Slash, im talking about human emotions - fear, greed, happiness, content, the "fck it" factor. ALL measured mathematically through money. and there are formulas. meaning these social experimentations can be repeated. and are...really.

I totally get it. Here's what I did about it. About 5-6 years ago I started realizing what's important in life and I decided how I wanted to live the rest of my time on earth. Working a bunch of hours and making a lot of money wasn't exactly fulfilling. Money is great but it's only good if you have the time to enjoy it and you have people you care to share it with. Gotta have balance. I wanted a simple life, not poor, not rich, just content, with little to no stress.

Stress is a silent killer, as dangerous as cancer...

So the goal was / is to eliminate stress and enjoy life doing the things I love to do and with the people I love. To do this I first started working on eliminating any debt. This took time and sacrifice but in order to get by on a potentially much smaller income this is what needed to be done. We (my wife and I) paid off both our vehicles and any credit card debt, loans, etc., so that the only monthly bills are things such as cell phone, internet, car insurance, power / light, you know, the regular living expenses, which when there's no debt really doesn't add up to a whole lot.

We decided our largest bill would be our rent / mortgage so we put a little extra toward that to give us a decent house to live in but nothing fancy, modest, yet comfortable. Don't need fancy cars, our old paid off ones drive just fine. We pay for everything cash now, and have for quite some time. We have one credit card with a small balance that we use to get gas on occasion and we pay it right off just to keep an active credit score, which when you have zero debt and a decent income things look great to creditors in the event you get a mortgage. The key to all of this was stop charging things and pay cash. If I didn't have the cash for it, I couldn't afford it, period. That's how it had to be, and is how it is now.

Now after relocating and settling in we're both in the job market to eliminate our largest stressor in life currently, which is our job, and it happens to be the same company. We may be taking a pay cut, but we've positioned our self so that it shouldn't affect our lifestyle a whole lot, if at all.

We find it's more important to be happy with what you're doing. No need to work 100 hours/wk to try and earn your way out, it'll never be enough, just make a modest living doing a solid 40 hrs a week and manage your money wisely and stress will be at an all time low. I've already noticed a big change in myself and in my wife. Life is good, and can be even better. You just have to identify what's important to you and make every day a step in that direction. FWIW

    Well said SUP!

My path to surf/life freedom was to start an internet based company. It took a couple of years with no guarantee of success, and a lot of work (not to mention my normal day job), but in 2009 I quit corporate American and now I enjoy a surf/travel-whenever-you-want location independent life. My kids are still in school so I'm still rooted in NE, but I *never* miss a swell, and I pack in a lot of surf travel during the year.

I too arrived at that critical juncture, where you realize that in 50 years (give-or-take), I'll be gone from this earth, so how do I want to spend my 50 years. For me the answer was to simplify my life, and dedicate my time to the things I love family/friends/surfing/*my* business.

I remember the moment of no return distinctly, sitting in my cubicle at work while a swell was going *off*, and watching these perfect lines coming in on the web cam. I had nothing pressing going on at work that day, yet I had to sit there for my allotted 8 hours. By the time I got out of work it was getting dark, the wind turned onshore, and I was a seething mass of frustration. From that point on, the mission was how to take back control of my life so instead of watching the surf on a wave cam on a Tuesday, I could be the guy getting barrelled on the wave cam.
