    Reality

Nice that you are spreading the love. But if you got kids and have a pit bull, you gotta be out of your mind. The list and news stories goes on and on and on and on....

This makes me cry, not a dog being nice to it's family like it's supposed to.

Honestly the breed should be banned. If not for the attacks on humans, for the reckless owners. 80% of all dogs euthanized are pits or pit hybrids/mixes. If you want to stop the mass euthanization of dogs, ban the breed that comprises most of the dogs being euthanized every day.

Not reading those. I'm aware there are opposite stories, but hardly any of the good stories get noticed. My Sister owns a Pit and has had several in her life and she has two kids and all of her dogs have loved her kids and have never once hurt them. It's almost always about the owner. Good owner = good dog 99% of the time.

    I realize that you're just making a point, s'bug.

In all fairness to the breed, these articles you posted ^^ is due to dipshiiite owner behavior.

And the mass media's fascination with asshat human/dog behavior.

The people who own pits are disproportionately beset with aggression issues themselves. So they project these issues to the animal. And society receives the effed up results.

As in, when's the last time you saw a self-styled mister bad ass dude strutting down the street with a labradoodle in a spiked collar? Exactly. If that were the case, you'd probably see labradoodles leading the dog bite hit parade.

These idiot owners are the ones responsible for the dog's aggro, often schizo, behavior.

With DPSUP 150% on this, no question at all.

There's no such thing as a 'bad dog.' They learn from the human virus.

^^^ Exactly. I don't for one second disregard that these dogs are severely dangerous animals in the hands of the wrong owners. But with the right owners they are the most loyal, loving, intelligent dogs you'll ever encounter. Being that they can be so lethal in the wrong hands, I truly believe that there should be screening just like when buying a gun. Not just anybody should own one, that's for sure. Don't ban the breed, bad the people who don't deserve this breed. Don't ban guns, keep the crazies from owning them, got it?

Pits need an owner who is very hands on and knows how to lead a very dominant but respectful animal without violence (minor discipline tactics OK). These dogs require a lot of attention and have TONS of energy so they need room to run and let that energy out and to be a dog. Pits desire a challenge and they want to work and do sh*t for their owners to impress them and earn their respect, but most of all, to please them. They're no different than that of a Yorkie at the end of the day though, they just want to love and be loved.

I don't like pits, so I don't own one. I own a dog with very little tendency to attack and kill people, or kill other dogs. There are many instances of pits, brought up by good owners who acclimate their dogs and don't train them to be aggressive, attacking people.
If you truly liked dogs, you would agree to ban the breed, and save about a million of them being put to sleep each year. I'm not talking about taking people's dogs away, I'm taking about banning future ones.

I am making a point to a degree.
But why not ban a breed that comprises 80% of dog euthanizations per year?
Wanna save 1 million dog lives a year? Ban pits.
Not talking about taking away anyone's family dog, just ban sale and future breeding of them.
I don't agree about the 'bad dog' theory. You are talking about a dog that was bred for centuries as a fighting dog, physically (strong stature, large jaws, etc) and mentally (how many pits have I met that people say, oh he's good he just will kill other dogs). What kind of **** is that?
It's in their DNA. You can be the perfect dog owner, trainer etc. but the propensity for aggression is still very much there.
On the flip side, you can be a really ****ty owner of other breeds, and they still aren't going to rip your face off.

You never know what goes on behind closed doors or in the comfort of one's backyard. I'm sure a lot of owners who claim their dog was "good" before "turning" had at some point abused, taught by violence, or never disciplined their dog when showing aggression in an inappropriate way.

Of course people are going to say their dog was a good dog when they end up going after a human or another animal. They want to protect their dog #1, but more importantly they are protecting their own ass from being sued or thrown in jail. And in the cases of a dog turning on them, I would be willing to bet that the dog was getting revenge for something that owner did. Dogs have a memory, and they hold grudges, so treat them with respect.
