So what do you do with the countless Pitbull pups that will go homeless / owner-less as a result of this ban? Who's going to care for them? Just going to let them roam the steets? Just kill them? Sterilize all Pits and let the species go extinct? None of those seem right, sorry, you're not thinking rationally.

Phase it in. 5 year plan. Future breeding and sales is banned. Current dogs are fine.
Many of the existing ones will be euthanized anyway by default, based on the stats.
Also, they are not a species, they are a breed. Created and developed by humans over centuries by selective breeding, specifically for fighting, until relatively recent decades when people thought it was a good idea to bring them into the home as family dogs. With the sheer number of other available non-pit breeds out there, including those available for adoption, I question the logic of the latter.

For the record, I love dogs. So much that I hate to see a million killed each year, so that a lot of folks can have a "tough guy" image by owning a particular kind.
I also hate seeing kids ripped apart by them.
So the solution to fix both problems is to ban the breed in my opinion.

I'm not a huge fan of pits either. Your right. Most pit owners are wanna be tough guys and think owing a pit and wearing a barb-wire tattoo makes them look tough.

You got me on that, bad word choice, but you fail on all other points, sorry. You're not a dog lover if you believe what you just typed, contrary to your belief that you are. You're afraid of them, admit it. If you were in the same room with a Pit, you'd have nerves that don't quit until you're not near them. Fact.

This ^^ is totally valid & a huge factor. The human virus does some utterly macabre shiiiite behind closed doors / out of sight, but the human virus learns early to put on good appearances aka lie.

Dogs don't lie. They just are. If they are labeled psychotic then one is assigning a sentient quality to their existence, in which case no way should we be euthanizing them (death penalty outlawed in how many states for the very same reason, folks?)

Or, the only other option is that the owner created / trained them that way.

    Real simple.

Stereotypes, eugenics, and canines. This should be an easy 15-pager.

I'm just glad to know we can profile stinkbug now. 35 year-old stay-at-home mother of two girls and proud owner of an AKC registered goldendoodle. Used to live in NYC, but moved to the CT suburbs to escape the black people and their pitbulls.

BTW, I didn't post this to start a debate on Pits, although it seems inevitable now. I just thought the story was really cool and figured others would too.

I'm all for euthanizing anyone that mistreats a dog (any breed) in any way, shape, or form. My current dog is a put bull. I normally have two dogs but my black lab died over a year ago and I haven't had the heart to replace her yet. We always rescue our dogs and my wife loves rescuing pit bulls. She does a lot of the training and it almost "feminizes" them. She has turned my pit bull into a total sap.
You could show up at my house wearing a burglar's mask and carrying a bag with a money symbol on it and my pitty would just roll over, begging you to scratch his belly. It's all in the training. I'd trust him around a new born.

Incorrect. Pits, Bull Terriers, etc. for centuries were bred as farm dogs, and you can't have a farm dog that's unpredictable or naturally aggressive, quite the opposite. It's only been recently that a$$hats have used them for fighting. Now it's possible that over a couple generations some have had more aggressive tendencies bred into them, but this would be a recent development.

Personally I'm not in favor of full bred dogs, I prefer to rescue mutts, and have had several wonderful mutts over the years. Have two staring at me right now.
