Monday AM sesh before work. Wave-wise, just enough to push a longboard. Still a nice way to start the week.
Was on my way to surf this morning with my wife riding along side when some moron ran a red light and nearly killed us just before sunrise. Just after that intersection is where I drop her off so that she can do her walk over the bridge and to the beach while I surf. He says his brakes "got hot" and didn't stop and he was trying to pump them yadayadayada. Thankfully not a scratch on either of us. Tahoe is banged up pretty bad but driveable. Getting the adjuster out here later today hopefully. And we're leaving for Vegas on Friday, so this is poor timing to say the least, but thank god we are alive. It all happened so fast, never saw it coming, coulda been over like that but somehow all the damage was around me, not directly on me. Wife hit her knee on the dash and hit her ear on my longboard but nothing major. It was us and two other vehicles, one a 89 Buick and the other a new Tahoe. Buick ran the light and hit the other Tahoe that hit me and then the Buick hit me or I hit him too, f'ed the Buick up the most, totaled. No surf for me this morning, but I'm not complaining given it could of been a lot worse. I can surf later if I want. Wear your seat belts people, and look both ways when going through an intersection even if you have a green light and think nobody is coming, it only takes once.
Thanks Z, it was surreal, pretty much got T boned by one and front end clipped by the other, but luckily the direct impact was between them first.
And what the hell does that mean, the brakes got hot? He was prob texting or day dreaming of surfing with Wayne!
The car was POS so it's possible they went out, apparently been telling his Mom she needs her brakes done for a month or something. He was driving her car, just dropped her off. Good thing because if she was still in the car, she would of been dead based on the damage to the passenger door. It's also very possible he was texting or day dreaming because we had the green light for a good min before going through the intersection and based on how quick it happened and the force he hit us with I don't think he ever slowed down.
That sucks DP. Glad your both OK. Was out at dawn and what a morning! Nice weather, bird song, deer are out an about and waist high glass. Having to get to work got me jammed up at first. I took a couple of bad waves trying to get a good wave count in and that left me paddling out through the nicer sets. But I took a breath and started waiting for the goods. I had the LB out and rode right at the nose across those beauties. Some at the peak. Dropping straight down and cranking a good turn into the pocket to stand tall. Others were way behind. Taking off at an angle, getting to my feet at the nose in a crouch with front foot extended to post a nickle. A drop knee cutback to set up a little reform either way. And I got to work on time. If you will it, Dude, it is no dream. Anyone else surf this morning?
Thanks Peajay, I would of rather of written about the subpar waves on tap this morning though, just didn't have time after the slow moving cops did their thing
Thanks WBF, and yeah, the least he could of done was wait till after I got some waves... he was a 30 year old black guy still livin w/Momma and driving her car, didn't even have his own phone to call his family, had to use my wife's. He felt bad, but swears nothing he could of done.
DP +1 ^ pancake flat here this weekend. Beach was packed so it made for goode people watching. Sand reconne for many blocks.
Checked the cam this morning out of habit, and wtf, there were nice clean lines coming in, even though the forecast was calling for ankle-slappers. Dropped everything and got to the beach to find a beautiful clean chest high swell with some punch to it. Watched a guy draw a line in the pocket for about 50 yards, and I was couldn't get out there fast enough. Surfed wave after wave with just a few guys out scattered along the beach, not a drop out of place. Surfed till the tide change made it fat, then got out, went home and started working, content as a body can be. Is there anything better than an unexpected swell? I still have no idea where this pulse came from.
Still managed to get waves this evening despite today's events. Had to go with the SB since my ride is at the collision center and can't fit the LB in the wife's car. Not my 9'er that is. It worked out and caught a bunch of good ones. Waist high, sets up to chest high, wind was onshore but didn't affect things too much. I'm a little stiff from the accident but surfed pretty well. Just was happy to be in the water and enjoying another day above ground.
Jealous of these luscious surf stories... Was watching the cams all day in Belmar. Looked pretty clean. Got there right after work around 5 and got hit with some crappy cross shore winds and closeouts. I did nothing but flop around on the disquette. Now I must wait for the clean thigh high waves on Saturday. Dirty Jerz needs waves.
This morning was way better than last evening, wind died and it was coming in consistently. Glassy peaks all up and down the beach in the waist to chest range, long rides if you stayed in the pocket, which I did my best to. Talk about a great way to start the day.
