Sure it can. Just give it time.

You buoyz who scoff at The Daily Mail...that's ok....you get your news from, what, The Economist? The London Times? The NYT The WSJ? Le Monde? I read those. Well, not Le Monde ugh. Those are all also merely rags. No matter how hi-falutin' you wanna posture them as. A whore is a whore no matter the price or the apparel.

Butt they are bought & paid for by the 9 media corps who run the media planet. That's fact. So, we get the official spinjob. Bought & paid for.

And besides, I like to see stuff reported on that doesn't have Fox or ESPN's political spin on it. The Mail is that. They just want eyeballs. You'll see stuff in there in re the USA that you'll never ever see in the mainstream USA rags.

Yank, I with on this in regard to the media and the "spin jobs".. It's about "separating the wheat from the chaff" or "chewing the meat and spiting out the bones", or whatever metaphor suites your fancy. Just seems like one has to spit out a lot of bones lately. Thus I believe we have a rising skepticism of the media and politicians..

And sometimes a foreign perspective helps triangulate the truth.

You said it 100% better than I ever could, dawg.

I was sitting in a bar in Cabarete, DR, along about 2006. W came on the tube in the bar, spouting some sort of proclamation or speech, and the Dominicans & everyone else perked up & listened intently (Germans, Dutchies, et. al.) but then after about 10 minutes? Everyone was shaking their heads & laughing. Spoke volumes about how far we (USA) had slid.

Yellowstone National Park is an amazing place. Regardless of your surroundings it not that difficult to get caught up in it's natural wonders. I've spent days hiking and fishing throughout the park and you can never get enough. There is something about the place that makes you want to explore and become a part of it. The connection to the natural world is very hard to resist and you can definitely see that people will do some dumb things just to make that connection.
People will cause traffic jams and wander around in the street to get pictures of a moose, bison, coyotes, wolfs, bears, all sorts of wildlife. Geysers, hot springs, mountains and canyons, all cause a personal interaction that people need to fill in their blanks.

So, yea I can definitely see some chucklehead trying to get a closer look at a hot spring and falling in. Warning signs are posted but with some that only makes it more appealing to cross boundaries.

Hell, surfing not much different if you think about it but we don't learn from others mistakes. We have to find out for ourselves and test those boundaries.

The media is there so we can laugh at ourselves.

    It's also a catastrophe boiling

Somebody last year posted a muy interesante article from the New Yorker about the north pac quake that's boiling as well...

So what will be the next major major natural catastrophe that push civilization to a breaking point?

That north pac quake poses a pretty good possibility, along with a mass migration for sustenance...in the ot'30s it was the Midwest draught...gotta be somethin brewin

Unfortunately we haven't hit bottom (IMHO). This current election cycle and what is likely to transpire through November and beyond will likely draw further ridicule abroad (or maybe horrify).

Oh, come on guys!! The next election we get one of two "firsts":
If Hillary wins --the first woman, if you can call her that...
If Trump wins---the first time a billionaire moves into public housing being vacated by a black family!!!

    How can we lose???

True. Still have liberty in spite of the downward trend in leadership.
Haha. You may have something. Develop that theme in an op-ed and perhaps some "leamstream" media outlet will buy & sell it. ;)

    I digress..

With the government to most likely start selling naming rights to our national parks, I only find it fitting these should be properly named the Red Lobster Hot Springs.

This pretty much sums it up for me. We get to pick how we get to the bottom. Either way, we're focked.
