if its 10'-12' & 17 sec out of the south theres a few spots that'll work depending on the wind - be smart and hopefully you've done your homework - there's been no actual swell all summer so oc will not be very good cause the sandbars have no shape to them. So far the fnmoc projections are showing maxing at 10' - barely doh if it hits right. Of course there are still many variables between now and then. It will be fun - we may get a small taste of what pacific dwellers get for every swell.
Triple Overhead? If it is truly triple overhead, then I will be watching from the beach. Is there actually a good place to paddle out in southern jersey when it is this big? I'm thinking it may only be possible to get out by going out through an inlet channel..
im a little freaked out about this to cuz the ecsc is next week and i dont relly want to get hurt or anything like that. but all i keep thinking is that if i dont atleast ride one triple overhead then ill probably be pissed. go big or go home
why does everyone say "cant wait for hurricane season" real swell is forecasted now everyones crying about it .
It could def get DO....Iv'e seen 12 ft. hold here before like once or twice....so it is possible...I know it's a rare occasion that the sand lines up like this..... but it could certainly happen. Now, TO will not be surfable at all. Beaches can't handle that size here. I'm trekking out to RI on Friday night...Just to make my paddle out a little easier and score some perfect waves.

Good point. That's why I say instead, can't wait for non-touristy/kids back in school/life guards gone home season. I don't mind the scraps from these storms, but I won't be out there if its overhead.
To tell you the truth... one of the best surfers I know lives with his mom and rides a soft top beyond perfection... he f**king rips!!! no joke

That's what she said. Seriously, if ur not even gonna paddle out and try to pick off some shoulders outside either quit surfing or never post again about how lousy the surf is. Two things I hate about VB are flatness and jet noise...but you better believe I take the good with the bad...gnarly hurricane swells and the airshow make the whole year worth it.
If it over 10 feet there will be serious problems. There will be few if any breaks that will be able to handle that swell. There will be lots of carnage and broken boards for people who aren't used to surfing waves of this size. Micah, just curious, is this the biggest forecast you have put up for the east coast since the site started? I certainly haven't seen any calls for triple overhead before.
Omfg I am so stoked and yet peeing on me self in terror... I have never even seen double overhead much less surfed it... Im concearned that the waves in ocean city will be shore breaking like the normally do - i get so ticked with this crazy shore breaking close out. I have never been in OCM during a swell like this so i have no clue what to expect... otherwise im so stoked, i have been prepping my board and gear all week PRAY FOR VIABLE SURF!!! And for everyone questioning the cahones of east coasters... there is a difference between lack of skill and wanting to be safe, because its going to be squirrly up here. lets see if you guys can paddle out in a thick beach break like we will. It's not the size that counts, it's how clean it is. I think most of us would paddle out in anything as long as it's clean. I've been in 8 - 10 feet peeling glass but to get that on the E.C. the planets have to basically come in alignment. Then you have the standard hurricane double overhead+ conditions where when one guy tries to paddle out, he moves about a half mile down the beach in 10 seconds and eventually gives up. The guys who do make it out to the lineup (if you can call it that) just sit there on their boards and S4!+ bricks trying to find something that isn't a 12 foot closeout. So it really all depends. We won't know anything until the day of. It's fun to speculate I guess. The double OH - Triple OH day will probably be a choppy mess. The lifeguards will be busy that day rescuing dumb tourists.
I agree with all of that. When I say I won't go out in anything overhead, I assume it will be the usual EC storm slop with strong currents. If it were clean and peeling, obviously it changes things a bit. I've been surfing long enough to know when I can and can't paddle out. Call it lack of skill, but I call it abundance of experience.
