Of course it was horrible, just think him apologizing for the actions of others well after the fact is pointless and seems like it's not his place. I had about as much to do with it as he did, don't see me apologizing lol, I get it, he's the president, but he was how old when that happened?

OH, please, wtf has come over you Blasters. Holy crap. Read up on the history of WWII. Every scholar, historian, blah blah of that war concludes that it would have cost the lives of hundreds of thousands of American soldiers & sailors, as well as hundreds of thousands of Nip lives, if America had continued the island-by-island leapfrogging military campaign towards Tokyo.

Nukes enabled the USA and Japan to end the war before anyone's wildest hopes for peace.

Yep. Thousands of people died in those cities from nukes dropped by Americans. Gutsiest, loneliest call of the war. Which is one reason why HST is consistently ranked as one of the greatest American presidents ever.

Present-day? We get the Bush family. Impotent & incompetent. The Clintons: criminal & evil greed incarnate. Obama: destroying the USA is his agenda.

So before you whine about 'oh the humanity' (look that analogy up), consider the facts. The nukes were, at their time, merely huge bombs that served a purpose. A moral, ethical, deadly, consistent purpose: ending war. It's only now, in the world of PC genpop Kardashian worshipping reality moron land that the bombings take on that retro condemnation.

People are pussies, seriously, for consistently second-guessing the incredible events of history.

There is a big difference between coordinating an attack on a military base (during a war) and dropping a nuke on a city killing/maiming 100,000's civilians.

Not saying Truman didn't need to do it, but it is much different.

It's a tough call for sure. I mean, it ended the war right? But it does suck that so many civilians were killed in the process. I hate war, but if you bomb us we're gonna bomb you back, but worse. It sent a message to the world that if you try us, you will pay. Might be time for parts of the Middle East to taste that wrath. End this bullsh*t war.

    No difference, really.
In both, humans were killed. One begot the other. Both suck but, imho, one was NOT necessary, the second was.
We are once again at that point where putting an end to aggression may call for destroying the instigators (Tehran).
I am afraid it will not stop until they are shown "the Way"?

Hope you are getting loads of time with your son. The arrival of my grand-daughter is but 7 weeks away. I already got a crib here at our place so when my daughter visits she can spend the night worry-free (if that is possible as a parent). Next year I will have to get loads of sand toys to play at the beach, and eventually..... a wet-suite!!

Yeah. He's walking now, so it's been awesome. He's digging the beach and the water. It's incredible how much fun it is just watching him have fun.
My mother having a crib at her house makes it so easy. We go up every couple of weeks and it's just as easy as being home.. And it's cool to see her so happy (having a baby around again)... You have a lot of fun ahead of you. Congrats.

You know I luv ya NYNJ, but WWII was all about destroying everything & everyone (both sides did it) to get the win. Civilian targets were always in play, in all nations.

Check the history of the vicious Allied bombing campaign over Germany. Dresden ring a bell...? Estimates vary, due to the massive number of undocumented refugees fleeing the eastern front warfare but at least 100,000 humans perished in the Allied fire-bombing of February 1945.

Hamburg: 50,000 dead from Allied air raids over the course of 6 years. Stunning.

Those were def not military targets & the Allies knew it.

Or, how about The Blitz? The Luftwaffe bombed London, specifically targeting residential areas to 'break the will' of the Brits. That campaign went on for 11 weeks: the city was bombed every single day & night for 11 weeks. Incredible. Approximately 25,000 people in London died in those bombings.

Tokyo: 100,000 dead from American bombers.
Russia: estimated 20 million civilians died via bombing & armies.

The nuke was truly viewed as a big bomb at the time of use on Hiroshima & Nagasaki. The moral & ethical angst / hand-wringing came about well after the fact.

I don't believe that anyone in America today can appreciate how exhausted & devastated the world was after 6 years of massive warfare & death & maimings. Not judging; just making an observation.

All war is horrific. The so-called 'intelligent' human virus displaying its inability to communicate results in horrific global conflagrations.

Agreed... I'm not saying it wasn't necessary due to the situation. It was a horrible, brutal, fuked up time. And every American should appreciate the things our grandparents had to do for us.
Just saying there is a difference between attacking a military base and killing civilians.

My Pops is a big history buff and he likes to remind me of how many Russians got slaughtered in WW2. This usually gets over looked in history. I am always amazed at how fortunate we are in this country when it comes to war casualties. We are very spoiled. It pains me to see people complain about our country being racist, sexist or whatever excuse they want to use to put our country down. 20 million Russians puts things in perspective.
