http://www.tcpalm.com/news/martin-c...ches--362f77ce-0a07-1340-e053--384438441.html This is effed up. Floridians passed an amendment to buy land to divert discharges from Lake O south instead of to the gulf and the ocean. Then the legislators diverted the money to salaries. And they wonder why voters are so angry.
These carpetbaggers need to be tarred and feathered and run out of the state on a slow boat to Haiti. That is almost too kind treatment for theses bloodsucking vampires.
They also said we couldn't stop the war in Vietnam. But we did. 50,000 American deaths later. But we stopped it. We marched, we held sit ins, we took over college campuses. We did it. We could change this. We need citizens to organize, march in the streets. Obstruct traffic. Hold sit ins at the legislature. Hold die ins. It requires leadership and know how. But it definitely won't work if everyone says, "you can't stop big sugar"
Meet the new boss.. same as the old Boss? Just traded one war for another , It's the American way, it's our biggest industry. To big to fail! C'mon Betty you're smarter than that. You guy's didn't stop anything that hadn't already ran it's course. But if that thought makes you sleep better well maybe we can both be right?
Totally! I've been told done deal before from beauracrats and it was lies. We prevailed. This is much bigger, but enough outrage directed at the right source can be effective. We need to put the robber baron Gov Scott's feet to the fire, somehow. I'm dumb. Someone smart out there knows his soft spots. He has national aspirations. Maybe he can be shamed? Doubt it. He has no shame. The only thing he understands is raw power. People here in Floridy need to wake the **** up and vote these bastards out! Out Out Damn Spot!
Wrong! War did not ramp up again until 2001. And it had def NOT run its course when we started to protest. It was INCREASING under LBJ. You studied Americsn history. SISURFDOGG and I lived it in the 60s and 70's. If the draft came back, am pretty sure this new generation would become less complacent. The only reason evil persists is that good people stand around and do nothing.
Americans won't do squat, sorry & sad to say Betty. As a kid, I recall watching the candlelit peace marches in my small town in NY state in the 60's - -made a powerful impression. Now? Americans are fat & sedated, sitting in their air conditioning with their 150 cable channels & their drugged food. Two things combined that ruined America's sense of community: air conditioning & television. Because they both encourage people to sit in their caves, and not know or care about their neighbors, causes people to assign irrational importance to totally useless drivel such as the Kardashians, reality shows, causes them to assign high value to the consumer acquisition mania of buying crap, and isolate humans from a sense of community. My 2 centavos.
It is a cultural shift, kids. Your population demographics has changed dramatically since the Vietnam war. Most of them are now beholden to a presidency that cares more about what happens in Kenya than in the USA. Your biggest enemy is NOT ISIS, it is the news medias--they are your "enemy within". At one time you could depend on them for truth; now they do not even now what truth is, and they do not even care, as long as they self-nominate themselves for a Pulitzer Prize. And yes, I lived it as well, Betty. Marches to stop Army recruitment for Vietnam etc. Even got sprayed with chemicals.
Was at a business dinner last night and was very pleased to see a 45 year old guy from Stuart get very worked up about the ocean situation when I casually mentioned it. He showed photos of the green slimy water. I said, "It's going to take marching in the streets to stop this", to which he said that it will come to that. Business owners and homeowners are very worked up about it in his area of Jensen beach and Stuart.
Yes Betty When We moved here in the late 60s I even had to take a test on your american history, I even served in this country 's military . If the draft came back you would have an overwhelming amount of people in prison for draft dodging ...You can't be Naïve enough to think you helped end the war with your Love ins and peace full demonstrations Can you? Oh and your vote doesn't meen $hit either so vote for who ever you want.. Meet the new boss ..same as the old boss. It's just another case of to big to fail.BTW I had a field trip to a little island in the early 80s called Grenada. Talk about entitled college kids! Hey I even brought back some scars for show and tell.None of meens anything.
Actually, antoine, the peace marches did indeed help to undermine the Vietnam War effort on the part of the "Hawks" as they were called then. The lack of political support pushed to end that war, which, did NOT end well for the USA. And not because of the peace marches, but because of the morons that got us into that fiasco from the start. The politicians lied about American GI body counts, Viet Cong body counts, etc. It was our military being as disgraceful as it ever could be. Not the little guys in the trenches, mind you, but the "big guys" in the Pentagon.
Antoine, the anti war movement was not a little localized thing. It was nationwide, on every major university and college campus. The turmoil was on the nightly news. It pit generation against generation. The demonstrations were massive, not just a thousand people or so, There were fringe groups of course that became violent. But most of the anti war movement was peaceful, just like the civil rights movement of that era. If you think the massive anti war movement (and the massive civil rights movement )was not key in stopping the Vietnam War (and passing major Civil Rights legislation under LBJ), then Perhaps your history classes were poorly taught-- by morons.
www.bullsugar.org Just a facebook page but it has a following. Looks like the start of a campaign but not much of an organization yet. 1st glance has me thinking it is missing any kind of leadership. Go get em Betty.
So Governor Rick has issued an executive order and declared a state of emergency. He says it's all the president's fault. Thanks Obama. http://www.flgov.com/2016/06/29/gov...e-and-martin-counties-following-algal-blooms/
