I have a trip set up for San D in August. Going with my pal who surfs, girlfriend and her friend. Surfing will be a main part of the trip so input on areas we should check out is appreciated. I already have a list of a few im definitely checking. We are gonna be near Chula Vista. Should I buy a cheap board out there or pack a board bag? My friend is set on bringing two of his and he has space for an extra. So I might slide in my fish. Surfing won't be the only thing we are gonna do. Gotta entertain the ladies a bit too. Any suggestions on sight seeing or other fun stuff to do? Might drive up to the red woods one day and check out LA, Hollywood etc. but I'm a newb to the west coast. Thanks for any input.
Don't be sour becuz you posted a video and multiple users, myself included, called you out on your stink bug stance lol
Is your girl friends friend single? Post a picture If she's an 8 or higher, I'll let you use one of my boards for 100/day Chula Vista....? If you are 21-30 you'll want to party in pacific beach or downtown.
Haha nice Scoobs. I'll find you a pic. I'd definitely throw her an 8. You guys have tons of boards on Craigslist out there. I've been eyeing down what I might grab.
Redwoods are something to see, but they're going to be quite a bit further north than LA. CA is a big state. http://www.visitsequoia.com/redwoods-and-sequoias.aspx
Old Town Gaslamp Quarter Balboa Park SD Zoo Shopping @ Girard and Prospect in La Jolla (good surfing nearby) Bring passport and take Trolley to Tijuana for shopping and entertainment, or take a 15-30 minute drive into Baja for some of the best beach breaks & reefs you'll find These are a few of my favorite things...YMMV
SD zoo check the hang gliders in La Jolla Go feed the sea lions at La Jolla cove, HA Tijuana Get a carne asada burrito at Robertos Go to the big swap meet/flea market at the stadium
You guys are awesome. I'll definitely be looking into all of those places mentioned. I heard TJ can be sketch. But I'd be stoked to get some surfborting in Mexi .
I see what you did there Bill would advise you to go to the La Brea tar pits. I've never been to Southern Californeeway, but if you're traveling N I second the redwoods. I burned a spliff in a tree out there.
TJ ain't too bad, the locals generally don't **** where they eat if you get my drift. Actually fairly charming and your wife/gf might dig it. Surfing in the immediate vicinity (north to south): Rosarito Beach, behind the hotel of the same name Baja Malibu, you've never surfed a beach break like this before...guaranteed Pemex jetty, hidden from road Popotla, well shaped lefthand reef Calafia, grinding right summer reef Teresa's, sweet right reef north of K-38 K-38, mellow right reef point Las Gaviotas LA Fonda All within an hour's drive from SD
If your driving north of LA don't. Go to Trestles with ten-thousand of your bestest buddies. Check out the ripcurl outlet there and pick up some cheep wetsuits. It's not the store, it's the place further down the alley.
chula vista!?...that's waaay south. I wouldn't waste my time and money driving any north of Carslbad...unless you want to experience not getting any waves at trestles and gridlock traffic. Just surf, eat fish tacos and get the ladies drunk at the many fine beachside eateries (ocean beach, mission beach, etc). If you feel the need to expand, there's Sea World, the Tijuana third world experience and stinky surf spots of Rosarito. But, better off just staying local and enjoying the ample waves and sun...and lack of mosquitoes and humidity.
If you have an out of state ID, the Doctor will give you a rec ($40), but most dispensaries wont let you through the door without a California ID to go along with your rec.
Actually just talked to my buddy who lives out there. Bailing on Chula Vista and staying closer to the hotel line above route 8. Supposedly Chula gets kind of shady... Thanks for the advice though. We'll probably check out La Jolla, PB, OB etc. Is trestles really that packed? I'd like to go somewhere with a decent stretch of breaks, minimal crowd and not too dangerous with rocks and ish.
If you didnt already book your room, check out Pacific Terrace or Beach Haven inn (both 92109 - walk to beach). My friends always stay there when they come to town, semi cheap - for the area. Hotel circle, which you just mentioned, isnt far from the beach, but you need a car. like 4 miles Trestles will be a zoo - If you go on a weekday, maybe a few less people. but its summer. Kids live down there. If you want stretches of beach, try mission beach. Parking's a bit ch, so crowds are thin. or Torrey pines state beach. Your lady friends can stare at old cocque all day while you get some sand bottom peaks
Far from an expert on SD, but tossing in a coupla tidbits. Have fun Kan. Research online, then go eat lots of good-to-great Mexican food. Street tacos, si. Ballast Point brew pubs are pretty good. Phil's BBQ, the local spots & the airport location near the United Airlines gates are good eats. Always had fun surfing Del Mar. Park anywhere near 11th Street, walk down the steep trail to the beach, paddle out. Sometimes crowded, usually pretty mellow wave, but not too bad usually. Or, if you want to drive up the line: Trails. Get with Gaff, he's the mayor be nice to him (hint: La Frog) & he might turn you on to the right place on the right swell.
