I'm usually pretty indifferent on politics bu lean left on most social issues and more right on almost everything else. Not too psyched at the prospect of Hilary or Trump in the Oval Office but I took one of those "who should I vote for" quizzes the other day and apparently I agree with Trump on 92% of the questions posed.

I'm afraid, I'm very afraid. We're living in an interesting and violent time and we the people are on edge. I hope whoever ends up in office doesn't totally f**k our country up.

This cycle a third party could really have a chance.

This has been discussed before and one of the brighter Swellies threw out Gary Johnson as a Libertarian. Since then, his name has quietly popped up a couple of times in the MSM as a possible candidate. Very interesting stances, seem to be more in line with centrist America.

I'm very curious to hear this man, its got to be better than this rolling clown show we're currently muddled in. Right now, the entire globe is laughing at us.

rest assured the two major parties will be working hard to make sure you dont...at least in any debate they participate in. Shameful.

Yeah I agree, I don't see him being permitted in any of the debates which is a damned disgrace. Here's an article on the subject (http://thehill.com/homenews/campaig...ace-uphill-climb-to-get-place-on-presidential)

    From the article:

he Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) requires that candidates poll at 15 percent in five national surveys leading up to the three scheduled debates and that they garner enough spots on state ballots to chart a path to the White House.

But that’s a catch-22 for third-party or late-deciding independent candidates: Most polling outlets are only testing match-ups between Trump and Clinton in their surveys.
“The game is rigged,” said former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson, who won 1 million votes as the Libertarian Party candidate in 2012 and is seeking the nomination again in 2016. “There’s no way a third-party candidate can compete unless they’re on the debate stage, and you can’t get there unless you’re in the polls.”

Johnson hit 11 percent in one recent Monmouth University survey, putting him tantalizingly close to the threshold. But he still has to improve on those numbers and then replicate them in other polls that don’t currently test his ballot strength.

I like GJ, he sounds like he is capable. BUT, I feel like most people considering him are bernie supporters/Hillary haters.

So, if those people vote for GJ in the election, almost guarantees Donalds seat at the white house. It looks like the only way to stop donald is to vote for Hillary.

That's funny because I don't like Trump but I'll vote for him before Hillary. Gary Johnson seems like the common denominator but we feel like a vote for the 3rd party is a win for the party you don't want to win. That narrative has been driven home to ensure we choose between red or blue. Both Johnson and Weld did great things for their respective states. They should allow their socially liberal motives be decided by the states and run the nation with fiscally conservative models.

I've never been politically active or shared my views outside close friends or family but I'm thinking about being more vocal. Need to do more research first before I jump on that horse though.

    Excellent point. But sad.

There is no doubt a kernel of truth here Scobes. But I also tend to believe that between all the leftist loonies and extreme right wackjobs out there right now, exists a true silent majority of moderates and centrists on both sides of the ideologue aisle...possibly even enough to closely override the sensationalistic views of the major parties and bring home a victory for real Americans, not the Cliven Bundy's or the Rachel Maddow's.

But it all comes down to the Message and Delivery (didn't Stank have a mathematical equation about that somewhere? Message + Content = Impact). You have to say the right things and have the perfect amount of charisma. That's how every single presidency has been won, and neither of the current candidates really fit that description.

But he has to be given the chance, first.

Are you suggesting a Swellies Grass Roots Campaign for Johnson? That would be farking awesome.

Honestly tho, I'd like to do some more research before I go throwing my hat in for an unknown Dark Horse.

But as of this moment, I sure like him better than the other 2 rotten alternatives.

GJ was on Bill Maher recently and I found myself feeling pretty aligned with him. Seems like a logical modern human-being and not a pure showman. Maybe not all Libertarians are wackjobs.

Trump is gonna announce his VP selection tomorrow, looks like Indiana Gov Mark Pence.

"In 2015, he signed into law a controversial "religious freedom" bill, which spurred wide backlash. Critics said the bill could allow business owners to ban LGBT customers based on a claim of religious freedom."

I don't know dude... I had a missed call earlier from a blocked number, but they didn't leave a message. Not 100% sure, but I think I might be getting the call for VP... I'll let you know what happens when they call back

Mike Pence actually. Who knows? I bet even Trump himself doesn't and could change his mind as he's walking to the podium. The great thing is that none of the possible contenders are in it to actually support Trump but only to further their own political ambitions. Whether Trump wins or loses they would come out better just because they are all in such schitty political positions right now. Christie is done. Pence won't get re-elected. And Gingrich is Gingrich.
