Nice trip report, Yankee. I hope you'll post up some pics if you got 'em.

I've never been to the Pacific coast of CR. I did get to Salsa Brava once for two days, but it was flat as....well....flat as Rhode Island I guess.

Glad to hear yankee did not lose a leg (or other appendage) to the mighty crocodilians in CR.

Last 3 days have been nice here: I arrive at beach and into the water at 5:30 AM. Surf has been thigh to waist high, tides just right, glassy peelers. Three days in a row. Water temps a nice refreshing 65*F.
And best of all--nobody out but myself and a couple of friends.

Capped 4th day in a row Saturday early morning 6 to 8am sesh, as swell was tapering off. Waist high with occasional shoulder set waves. Long rights at one of the usual spots if you got in early and maintained speed until the inside section where it gained more speed and angle. Wind was offshore and a bit stiff at times, which added a little challenge, but it there were some really fun ones that roll through. For some reason it was not very crowded ..perhaps everyone raided the other popular locale. All in all a good sesh and it was good to score considering how few opportunities there have been recently.

@yank - nice report, sounds like a great trip. Glad you're back on CONUS w/o incident.

Was able to get out between about 6:30 - 9am on both Friday and Sunday in south Jerz. Friday had more size and was glass with zero wind but the tide got on it pretty badly. Sunday was smaller with a little offshore breeze but very lined up and with a much better tide - a great loggin day. Warm water, about 75 with lots of osprey, dolphins and only one green head fly!

I had a half day at work on Friday so I went back out around 2pm and stayed out till around 4:30 and it was really fun. Maybe even more fun than the morning, not as clean but just as consistent if not more, and there was same size, maybe a few bigger. The slight bump on the face wasn't much of a problem, overall it was pretty clean. It was one of those sessions where you paddle out catch a wave, ride it in, paddle back out spin around and do it again, over and over and over. Summer hasn't been all that bad, at least for me.

Saturday I took my wife out at sunrise and she was catching waves unassisted and getting to her feet and then falling. Seeing that smile on her face when she comes up from under water is priceless. She finally "gets it" I think. She got out after an hour and I surfed for another 30 minutes and stacked a bunch of waves in a short period of time and then we went home and had breakfast and took care of the lawn.

Sunday we headed down to Fort Pierce to see Valhallalla, his wife, and Betty. It was a small day but very clean and after 6 hours or so we were spent. Caught lots of little liners, and it was "fun" but it wasn't really scratching the itch for me, wave wise. As far as the company and hanging out, it was a blast. Always a good time when you're hanging with fun / chill people.

This morning I got out before 1st light, water was chilly again so I guess another round of upwelling is going on. Not a problem though, felt nice once I started moving around. I went back to my trusty sand bar just North of me and it was doing it's thing again. Most places probably weren't working that good, but this bar was knee - thigh with the occassional waist high thrown in there. Very fun and playful waves. I was on the LB and some other dude was ripping it up on what looked like a mini Walden. We were the only two out and we both stayed on our own peak. Nice when that happens.

Lots of hours in the water logged, but i'm not tired, I feel good.

Exploring the wild North Coast with my wife for our 23rd anniversary.

Not the best time of the year for most of these spots, but hope to find a secret nugget over the next few days.

Glad to hear from The Yankmeister, only slightly jealous over here.

Did I mention the water is 47 up here? Lol

    What's happening?
Glad to see folks surfing. Yeah it's kinda small but it is what it is and it's been enough to brighten up your day most days.

I got in Friday late afternoon to evening for a some onshore windswell. It was messy but a peak was in there that you good turn on and race to one hit before it dumped onto shore. Good fun and nice to be on a shortboard again. took a minute to get out of LB mode though. Sunday early was perfect for taking the kid out and we rode tandem. Some dudes seemed put off by it. Like having a dad and his son goofing around in the line up kinda makes their aggro trip seem silly. Plus with his added weight up front we can catch anything and once he is standing i can lay prone and paddle through the soft parts. i wouldn't have surfed if he wasn't with me.

But this morning was solid waist high and super clean. good for re learning footwork and getting 10 toes on the nose for longer time. I have to consciously say pivot before I stand up and then count out loud the four steps to do it. other wise i fade right turn left and shuffle for a cheat 5. whatever, it's all fun.

Who else been surfing? Post here and keep it positive. Duck dive the negative and it will roll over.

    #DuckDiveTheNegative!

Man, it was nice to have three consecutive days of fun surf. Water was perfect temp. Great little swell for first week of August. Hopefully it was a primer for some good surf to come.

The highlight (or lowlight depending on your position in this) of my weekend was in my final session. Incoming tide, glassy fun ones doubling up and fast (I was on the 8' chilling since it was smaller and I was burnt). So, I take off on this wave....struggling to get in to it so I put my head down and put all I had to get in. There were two chics on the inside floundering around right in front of me. I was in, but not down the face and just doing anything I could to make the drop and bottom turn out of harms way. I was able to avoid disaster but I came very very close to nailing one of the girls. I usually stay on the side of caution and this was an unusual position for me. I am thankful it turned out ok but it stayed on my mind for some time after. Ended up pig dogging the closeout and getting worked a bit for good measure!!!

It was surprising that the crowds where minimal and the surf was fun. I think this swell caught some by surprise.

Yankee, surf trips are always a blessing. Sounds like you scored.

I actually managed to get out five days in a row from this little summer swell that didn't quit.

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday - all three late afternoons waist to chest high fun surf, very warm water.

Saturday DP - probably the best form of the swell, glassy, but only waist high.

Sunday night - Surfed until just before dark, small leftovers, warm water, love the look of oncoming wave faces at sunset.

    Somewhat surfed out.

Right on Mitchell, It's been pretty consistent here too, even on days where the forecast looks like it might be flat and Surfline is reporting it as flat, I'm still managing to find a bar that is producing a rideable wave, it's all about that sand recon, I take pride in it, thank god we have Frost here to teach us these things

Yeah, that definitely beats 1 peak with 100 people.

As DPSUP mentioned, the waves were kinda disappointing at the secret inlet Sunday. The forecasts were not great but I was hoping for a bit more. It made it pretty frustrating for the wives who struggled to catch the weak waves. I managed to find a few good rides but it was a lot of work. I'm much more tired than if I had been surfing a bigger day.

Despite the meager surf, it was a beautiful summer beach day and we had good company to share it with. Lemonade from lemons. Still, I'm ready for summer to end and get back to some better surf. Maybe I'll find something decent next week when I'm up in Buxton.

    Life is good.
I feel sorry for people that don't surf.

Congrats on the 23rd. My wife and I just celebrated our 43rd!! Fvck....where oh where did the time go?? And we are still awaiting our grand daughter to be born--we think today is the "due date". I suspect she will be tardy as her mother usually was as a teenager........payback!!

Nice....5 days. That's like a staycation surf trip. I had work that kept me anchored down a bit on the front end.

Not totally surfed out but it was fun as hell!
