All I know is if you take away the poverty, then these problems all disappear. There is no 'cultural flaw' endemic to the black race. Inner city violence occurs across the globe, poverty and lack of opportunity are the 2 things they all have in common. The most violent cities by far are in South America and Mexico, maybe we should be talking about the Latino 'cultural flaw' instead.
I think a lot has to do with the thug gangsta rap music culture. If any of you are old enough, remember in the 80's we didn't see any wanna be gold teeth, gun toting, bs. The black youth weren't aspiring to be drug dealers. 80's hip hop was bout politics and raising awareness to the strife, and uplifting black people. The record industry didn't promote this kind of music, but instead heavily promoted the utter trash of drug, criminal activity music. TuPac and Biggie were two stars who started using their fame to bring awareness to the degeneration of the black community, and suspiciously theys dead, while dirt bags like 50 cent and Lil Wayne are now cultural icons. Monkey sees monkey do. No pun intended. Not to get conspiratorial, but I don't think it was coincidence that the CIA introduced crack cocaine into the inner city slums, and the record industry pushes degenerative garbage music.
On another note, i'm seeing conflicting reports on how the meeting with the Mex Prez went with ole Donnie boy. F'ing hate the media. Would like to know what really was said and what really happened for a change.
I'm sure there are cultural flaws in other societies endemic unto themselves. Don't really see the same type when compared to the culture here in the U.S. Poverty does not equal lack of family structure. You are hanging on this flaw endemic to black race like there is not an epedemic in our society. It's part of the culture. Poverty does not explain it fully is what I'm saying. I believe there is something deeper. Not even able to debate you on this b/c I don't know the why...just think using poverty to defend killing your own race and having no fathers raising multiple kids is not the whole answer. I think you are trying really hard b/c your hypothetical white race in poverty was irrelevant. You can perceive it any way you would like but the fact is in the stats for murder, violence, family structure, etc. in that part of our society.
Young people are very impressionable. Look at all the millennial idiots that grew up on garbage pop culture. It's no wonder kids today have a victim mentality, and cry out against micro aggressions, wanting safe spaces, and everything for free. Can you honestly remember the last time you heard really really good motivating uplifting music being promoted? I stopped listening to the radio around the time when NickleBrokeBack was winning music awards. Where are the big bands singing about the state of the nation and the pussification of the culture at like we had from the late 60's and 70's, and the punk rock movement? Now the big names in music are Justim Beebler, Beyoncé, and that sorry garbage they call Country Music. When's the last time you heard someone one the scale of a Niel Young that really gave a fuk about things? Artists like that moved people to wake up to the world around them and do something about it. They brought about cultural change for the better for the most part.
I agree that young people are impressionable, but there are millions of people who enjoy gangster rap, who never commit a violent crime. Me included
Gangsta DP. #thuglife Arch definitely agree on the music....both the influence point (although I think some of the issues go much further back) and the point about todays music in general. The music these days pretty much stinks. Can't stand NickelBrokeBack either. I find myself listening to 70-90s music...don't really have any 00'> music I love.
Yeah, but you don't live in a slum, where your opportunities to become a productive person are slim, and being a gangsta is easy, and promoted by manny elders in that community. Monkey see monkey do.
I'm not saying there aren't some idiots out there that don't try to mimic what they hear in a song or what they see in a video or whatever, but what I guess i'm saying is that the root cause goes deeper than that. Also, you don't know where I came from, so you're making some assumptions there. I'm white, but grew up in a very mixed area, low - barely middle class neighborhood right on edge of the ghetto where a lot of the guys I went to school with lived, and I was one of the only white boys on the football team many times. I wasn't born in the middle of Baltimore but I have seen poverty first hand, and at points in my life experienced it to a degree. I have seen plenty of people make it out of the ghetto and make a good life for them self (aren't you one of them?) and didn't let their surroundings keep them down. It's on a person by person basis. Everybody has free will in their life here in the USA, even in the slums, some use it for good, others do not. If I had to boil it down to just one major factor, I would have to say that it's due to the lack of parents. I almost said lack of Fathers, but many of the Mothers are M.I.A. as well, or they are too cracked out to care, or are selling their bodies to put food on the table. Not a good example for kids, and it's a viscous cycle.
Never was a huge fan of Wu-Tang honestly, I like some songs, but I can't say they were at the top of my list, believe or not.
Again, you take away poverty, and all these problems go away. Middle class and upper middle class black Americans do not suffer these problems. Poverty may not be the whole answer, but it's at least 95% of the answer.
Man... I'm not sure if you realize how racist yours posts are... I'm going to take you at your word and assume that you don't see the blatant racism in your posts on "the black race". The color of someone's skin has NOTHING to do with propensity towards violence, family unit, etc. Middle class african-americans are not disproportionately violent, nor are wealthy americans of any skin color. You don't see black engineers, lawyers, accountants, etc. shooting at each other. The rate of crime in the inner cities is where you see that conduct. The root cause is a combination of (a) lack of opportunity, (b) poor education, (c) drug addiction and availability, (d) incarceration rates for non-violent drug crimes, (d) warehousing people in inner city projects, where they are not exposed to other people or opportunities. It is awful hard to be self sufficient in the middle of NYC or Chicago. People are born into these situations... they don't choose to be there. Some make it out, but most are wrapped in the cycle... born to too young parents, neighborhoods plagued by violence, no respect for education(this happens before children have any say... 4-8 years old), etc. If you want to have a real talk about the problems in inner city america, I'm all for it... but please stop saying its "black culture" or the "black race." There is no such thing as "black culture" and there are no sociological predispositions based on skin color. Obviously, there is a huge problem with crime, government resources and other negatives that come out of our inner cities... let's leave skin color out of it. Finally... check out the countries with the highest murder rates... if Chicago was a country, it would be 19th, just in front of Puerto Rico.
Not making any assumptions, I grew up in a similar enviornment. Pop culture shapes society as a whole. Read some works by E. Bernaise. In my original post I said I don't think it was coincidental that the CIA flooded the black communities with cheap crack cocaine. Also remember LBJs quote," I'll have these n*****s voting Democrat for the next 50 years." I personally think society has been shaped to fit an agenda.
According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics, all of these claims about blacks being more violent simply don't pan out. Here's a direct quote: -Poor urban blacks (51.3 per 1,000) had rates of violence similar to poor urban whites (56.4 per 1,000). Would you look at that, rates of violence are even slightly higher for the poor urban whites. Since 'the data doesn't lie,' we can now retire the notion that blacks are more 'culturally violent' than whites.
