Whats with Wabasso anyways? I still rememember from a FLA trip some 20 years ago....Melbourne/Cocoa...small weak log waves...Sebastian almost flat...keep heading south....Wabasso was pumping with chest high barrels right off the dune crossover....Score!
It was a goofy footers paradise. Nothing but lefts. Glad you caught a couple in Le Belmar. I intend on showing up there at least once this week. Hoping it'll be a fun one.
Paddled out around high tide this AM just south of North street. Got out a few hours later in front of Gillians. Caught some decent ones. Lots of close outs, so you had to be smart with the wave selection. My last wave was the tits. Medium sized left that just kept going and going and going. Lots of paddling. My old arse is hurting and I gotta work 16 hours tomorrow. It was worth it. Based on the original forecast from Friday, I was going to wait until Wednesday and take off from work. I think I'll save that day off for the next swell.
If it's big enough, it will break far enough from shore not to be shore pound. Seems like it's pretty eroded from what I remember of it 30 years ago. It used to be where I brought the kids. Now it's got Disney hotel right next door which kind of ruined the vibe there to some extent. Used to be Able to sneak into their pool from the beach-- until they put up a locked gate. So now it's good for nothing except jobs for the locals. Used to be pretty funny sitting by the pool and recognizing a dozen people from town who also snuck in. Kind of like that Sci Fi movie, Day of the Trifids with Donald Sutherland
Went out in the over-hyped close outs Saturday and managed to stay away from the crowds by moving a hundred yards down the beach... Nothing draws a crowd like a crowd. Had a great day surfing with one of my sons all day Sunday. 3 other surfers out, calling each other into waves, nice waist to chest soft waves, great for longboarding. Good times...
Sirs, I am leaving Millville on a bus train now to go to the Metros or maybe the New Hampshire Avenue to do some ocean surfing. I will submit my reports later so I can show you all how macho and manly I am with surfing.
Yah, well, we're not gonna derail the single most successful tread in SI Forume history due to yet another troll douche canoe. Carry on, SI Forume surfers
Great morning in OCMD!...head high, mostly lefts. Had to get out for some lunch, but it was hard to leave. Got a couple decent rides, nothing too spectacular. Working on getting my a$$ back in shape so I can make the most of the time I'm in the water. I'll be back on it in a little while. Have fun fellers!
Just got back from the Outer Banks last night. I figured it would be better than taking time off of work to catch Hermine in DMV or South Jersey, plus I was afraid the weenie jurisdictions would react to Hermine by closing the beaches. Even though the forcast was for the wind to go NW Sunday, it never happened. The north side of Cape Hatteras was complete VAS mess. Luckily, there was enough of a wrap around swell, that we scored two Frisco sessions, one Sunday night, one Monday morning. Sunday night we caught it at about mid tide, but it was still breaking on the way outer bar. There was enough lulls that paddling the log out to chase some rhinos was not an issue. I caught one that's in my top 10 waves, somewhere in the "well overhead" realm, with plenty of wave above and below you. I connected all the way through to the inner section, with the strong offshore wind, intensifying the ride, making it feel like I was going twice as fast as I was. Great fun. Yesterday, we got out at a little later in the tide, but there were still some bombs on the outside, so I went hunting again. Unfortunately the big sets were about 20 minutes apart, and by the time I had dialed in the takeoff spot, it was too deep, and the waves were no longer coming over on the bar. I moved inside where there were zipper fast freight train lefts. I managed to catch a few and survive, but it was tough. We left the outer banks at about 2:30 in the afternoon, heading back to the Washington area, expecting to get pummeled with traffic. I guess Hermine kept a LOT of people home, as that was probably one of the easiest trips from OBX to DC that I've ever had!
I was at Indian River yesterday a.m. and it was straight unruly. You could pick a few off but I spent most of the time keeping from being swept down to OC
This morning on Delmarva - total score...clean and head high sets all morning. paddled into a bunch of lefts that rifled down the sandbar, got out and shot a few it looked so good.
Dude, 3 meatballs just fell out of my sandwich and fell on the floor. You owe me a meatball sandwich dude
