Gracias DPSUP - - glad you started this tread. Hope it doesn't get 'jacked by the moron asshandlers who are slobbering over their tin hat conspiracy wet dreams.

Denada. I started the thread to pay my respects and provide a platform for others to do the same. If someone doesn't like that, then they don't respect their countrymen. But that's neither here nor there. Back to our regular scheduled programming...

Yankee, thank you for taking the time to write your experiences in this thread. It was moving, and I am speechless. Thank you.

I remember watching and listening to this during the prayer service at the National Cathedral following the 9/11 attacks. Can't hear the song's lyrics very well on this clip, but I remember being choked up. Something about that old song in light of what had recently happened to our country...

Random comment, copied and pasted. Thoughts?

Vice, you are lost on this issue. The challenge the world faces, and which moderate Muslims face, is that Islam is predominantly fundamentalist, and opposed to human rights. We can see this by looking at how Muslim-majority countries govern themselves. Atheists get the death penalty in 13 Muslim-majority countries, homosexuals get the death penalty in 9 Muslim-majority countries, Saudi Arabia -- the heart of Islamic culture -- denies women the right to vote or drive, to leave their homes without male supervision, has teenagers on death row for democracy protests, has taken in NO refugees during the Syrian war, honor killings plague Pakistan, girls struggle for the right to even go to school, polling data shows massive homophobia throughout the Muslim world, and extremely worrisome levels of support for Sharia law (about 50% globally) which is in complete contradiction of women's rights. The list goes on.

Yet, out of political correctness, we pretend that things are just fine. That the Muslims who write for Vice magazine are representative. These folks represent a tiny fraction of the actual values of the Muslim world. When gay Muslims come out they are showered by hate -- from the Muslim world. Why is it that progressives relentlessly pretend this is not the case? Pretend that Islam is mostly moderate and progressive? This is a dangerous fiction, because it prevents us from supporting real Muslim reformers in the Muslim-majority world. The atheists that are being hacked to death in Bangladesh, the transgenders being burned alive in Turkey, the Christians whose churches are demolished in Egypt.

Please improve your thinking and coverage on this topic. We certainly need to protect and value Muslims who might suffer discrimination in the West, but we also need to be honest about the problems. This author is not speaking honestly about "authentic" values, and we know that by looking at Muslim-majority country policies and polling data.

True to your nature.. did you even click the link and look around? Probably not. It's okay to be mad about what happened that day, but perhaps you should get your star spangled eyes checked and look into it some more? Never Forget 9/11.. except all the wonky bizarre azz things that took place leading up to and on the day of... forget those things!

Yea.. On with the circle jerk of "where you were on 9/11"..

You're a self-serving asshat. I did view that website that you posted up. It's a slick piece of postulations & self-serving conspiracy BS, listing high tech weaponry that supposedly destroyed the buildings. In other words, you just can't honor DPSUP's OP request of honoring 9-11 - - nope, asshat oldassoul gotta politicize it & post up his own jagoff agenda. The sign of the true narcissist: jacks the tread via asshattery to make it, ultimately, all about him.

Im a day late but got a chance to pay my respect today by walking out to the point and look at the NY skyline and take note on how different everything is and how far we have come since.
In retrospect is is very somber.

I apologize for my part in hijacking the thread.

On the way to the beach yesterday, I reflected on my posts and came to the conclusion that they were disrespectful of the catastrophe, as well as all the responders and innocents involved that day.

I have no excuses for my behavior, and wish to again apologize to everyone that I offended.

I don't have any personal experience with 9/11, other than clearly remembering sitting in my office while listening to the events unfolding, and how sad and angry I was.

So I surfed yesterday to honor them. SI forcasted big windy surf, but I got burned the day before so I kept a close eye on it. Lo and behold, the normal beach was out of control...but the Harbor knocked it down a notch and cleaned it up, providing the best waves I've had at this particular spot in a year.

    Never Forget
