I am new and a long time lurker, more like a stalker. Im from Iowa and moved to daytona beach to be closer to the surf. I am 28 years old and was really inspired to try surfing from watching the movie chasing mavericks. i have been here a month now and still haven't gone surfing but i like to hang out at the beach and watch to get the moves down before i try to surf.Does anyone live in a daytona that can help me?

Since you want to learn to surf I suggest you travel a little ways south to Cocoa Beach. There you will find a nice man named Wayne. He offers a one stop shop for all that is surfing in the area. No board, no problem. Wayne will hook you up. Just head to Cocoa Pier and look for a white van. It will say either "Free Surfboards" or "Free Candy" on the side. If you can't locate him there contact Wayne here: http://www.sonfollowerssurf.com/

Dude from Russia- if you really want to learn, this is what you should do:

    1. Buy foam surfbort for 100 dallars

    2. Find a surf shop that offers surfbort riding lessons.

    3. Practice practice practice ... It takes along time. Watching isn't gonna help - just get out there.

If you stick around here... Well... It's up to you...

Any oh yes... #4- once your official surfer (first time you stand up on surfbort ) move to Belmar - that's where the best waves are

Don't worry aboot the guy under the van. That probably won't happen to you. Many consider Wayne to be somewhat of a savior. You'll learn a new meaning to the term duck dive. Thank me later.

Damn, I missed the Tards head. Good eye. The petroleum jelly is for "surf rash", that's what Wayne sez. Very important for newbies.

Good point on the PJ. It is very common to get a rash when riding somebody else's stick.

Holy Carp! this has been the best thread I've seen since Roy was trolling. Love the pix. My bad day is getting better. Oh yeah. You should try heading down to surf Ponce Inlet. Keep an eye out for the boys in the grey suits though.
