Ian didn't exactly go off. He's basically just said to SUPs what needs to be said to every new (or experienced but still clueless) surfer:

    Don't ditch
Paddle out with respect to those already out
    Don't back paddle
If your equipment is giving you a huge advantage, be mindful of your wave count
Don't act like an entitled prick

My experience, mostly at one spot that is full of SUPs, is that they talk like they get it, but they don't get it.

It is gay and it is not surfing. It is boating, like kayaking. When i saw a little old lady on one i had my proof.

Not gonna like, I ****ing hate SUPers with a passion. Its always older dudes with rash guards on (you not laying down man, your not gonna get a rash), and they take EVERY good set wave that comes through. I'll watch them paddle 100+ yards, and even back paddle people to snake sets.

And its like, what are you even doing on the wave? Just standing there, wishing that damn paddle wasn't in your hands? They really need to learn their place, and understand that their equipment does give them a huuugggeee advantage in wave selection. Go somewhere that NO ONE is surfing, its not like your actually gonna do anything on that wave anyways...

    1) When this happens, drop in on them--every wave they take.
    2) When this happens, paddle up to them, grab their leash and yank hard--they come crashing down.
    3) When this happens, gather your friends and paddle up to them and tell them to leave the water. If they refuse, then proceed with 1 & 2 every wave.

In a short period of time, they will leave water. Have a reception committee for them on the beach.

A few summers back I was in the water. It was kinda crowded. Summer crap. Waves were decent though. Waist high and clean with nice shape. I was paddling for a wave when a SUP ran over my arm. He didn't catch the wave, was just paddling for it and ran over my arm in his attempt. Didn't hurt or anything, but guy didn't even apologize. I stayed on the water, but stopped surfing for s bit. Spent my time following him around barking and growing at him. Chased him down the beach and never saw him again.

Always makes me laugh when I think about that day

Yup, I understand. After all, it does take skill to ride a "log" properly.
    A sponge....not.

I have several too. Everything has a time and a place. Too many (most) people simply ride them to be wave hogs because they wouldn't be able to get a wave on regular boards.
