my (fools) hope is that this sorry episode will refocus power back to congress where the Founders intended it to be.
IIRC I mentioned this before, but the debates are a sham and have been for decades. The League of Women Voters ran the debates up until 1988 but stopped after that as they "refuse to perpetuate a fraud". Guess who's run it ever since? A bi-partisan committee of, you guessed it, the Rep and Dem parties. Anytime you see bi-partisan, you know we're not just twice as farked, we're exponentially more farked. I had a guy I grew up with actually got to be one of the sheeple allowed into the "debate" during the Slick Willie years and they even gave him the "privilege" of asking a question. He told me they wouldn't let him ask any of the questions he wanted, and they basically gave everyone a list of scripted questions that they could choose from. It's ALL a fraud, a sham meant to convince people that they have some say so in what our guvmint does. We don't.
Congress is bought and paid for too amigo. Destroy both parties and we might have a chance at turning things around. But as long as they are in control, we're screwed.
the Founders also wanted a balance between States rights and the Fed. The erosion of States rights, an ongoing subtraction that started with the Civil War, has a lot to do with the mess we're in right now as well. I actually read a book about it. It pissed me off.
Exactly. Maybe votes count on a local or State election but the whole Electoral College thingie is a big sham.
Well said dude... I love how they respond to every question "that's a great question and it needs to be answered" and then proceed to not answer them.
Plays right back into your comments about state's rights. Double whammy, cut us off at the fed level and neuter the few places where we might have some influence.
Paul Ryan agrees with you and so do I. Focus on holding the House, whatever it takes. The GOP really needs to decide what kind of party they want to be. This makes three election cycles in a row where their candidate selection process has seemed to be without any real conservative core value. Way too much emphasis on "whomever can beat the other guy" with almost a disdain for actual conservative or libertarian values if there was any hint of risking appeal to moderates.
George Carlin on "the American Dream" George
Exactly. After Ross Perot got into the debate and actually polled well for 3rd party, they have made it very difficult for a 3rd party to get into the debate. It's crazy that in a land where we have hundreds of choices on each consumer decision, we only get two for the highest office in the land.
if you vote for the lesser of two evils, you still get evil. I don't understand the rationale. Look at all the parties outside of the repub and democrats and vote for someone you like. You will sleep better at night.
With the internet, I think it would be possible to stage a Nationwide protest where everybody send in nothing but write ins. Perhaps even get enough support for one person and leave those on the ticket with little to no votes. Would it matter? Probably not, they'd probably just make some # up and use the electoral college to pick their president anyways. But who knows, maybe it could be the start of something. If not this election, maybe next election. All it takes is one Facebook post or Twitter post to go "viral" or whatever the kids are calling it these days. People all around the world were doing the ice bucket challenge for no damn reason other than they heard about it from a friend or saw it on the internet. Same thing, but way less retarded.
George is the man. He was talking about there being no choice and voting is meaningless for a long time. Many were critical of this material at the time but he nailed it on the head. Now, most people feel this way.
He's getting a lot of support and exposure, wtf not!? LOL I mean, he's probably just as qualified as half the morons in the government today.
