Hoping all the SI brethren to the South are all ok. Not a bad little run of surf. Sat PM was fun and Sunday morning was good before the wind got on it.

My home is in the middle of nowhere, a thousand trees. And it's Florida. If you saw off a tree down to its trunk, within a year, it sprouts back and looks undamaged again. I once cut down an oak tree dangerously overhanging my driveway down to just a trunk, about six feet tall. It is a year later and it looks like a normal tree with full foliage. Florida has badass plants and badass wildlife.

    ^Entertaining read. :D
Two years ago, the H.O.A. for my Florida residence planned to remove a small camphor stand within the common grounds to my east, and against my vote (provided me with much needed shade). They were uninterested in paying for stump grinding, and so I did not bother with further explanation; they deserved it. I am thankful that my majestic and historic live oak is unscathed, especially since it is only 30' from my garage... That one tree is a $30k addition to appraised value.

My crews are now in Savannah, and it is fairly well shredded...

My brother is a fire department captain near there, and last I heard, he had pulled 72 hours straight...

I dont know how you guys deal with Florida. We had a scorching July and August and an above average September and it was a bit much. Feels so good to have the humidity drop finally, 60 to 70 degree days with zero humidity. I would love the warmth and waves for January and February but even March can get hot down there. I remember surfing Sebastian Inlet in March after a long car ride from a snowy NJ and actually got blisters from the sun. The mid Atlantic has the best weather I have experienced. Short winters and short hot summers. The rest of the time its perfect.

Glad your all good after the storm btw.

Currently at my second residence in ATL, and I feel uncomfortably numb (53 degrees, going down to 51). Managed a few waves in VA, but never any further north, unless you want to count the Great Lakes... Cali, Oregon, Washington, always timed it perfectly, but always froze, too...brrrrr! We natives do not tolerate cold very well, unless there is some fluffy snow...love snow! :)

Son's car flooded and our chimney leaked quite a bit. Towed car to shop and letting it dry out to see if it's salvageable.
Through yesterday, the water looked filthy and uninviting. Surf conditions were poor anyway. With all the rain and run-off, I'm willing to wait until things clean up. On top of all this, VB had a big sewage spill two days ago near the Oceanfront in Linkhorn Bay. Also, water temp has dropped from 76 to 67.

Wow....and all this time I imagined Betty as a homeless, husband less suffer girl that lived under bridges, clutching to her surfboard and Apple iMac, which she would daily plug into the wall at a Waffle House to surreptitiously communicate with us losers and morons.
And then...BINGO.......she is married, with several columned plantation estates, servants ,and goes to the beach in her BMW X5!!!

    Who would have thunk???

According to science , the body actually changes after two years in Florida type climates. Your capillaries move closer to the surface of the skin to keep you cooler. Takes two years and this makes sense. My first two years here back in 1981 were unbearably hot. Then, not a problem except maybe six days out if the summer.

Same thing happens if Floridians move up north. Takes two years for capillaries to move deeper into the body to keep you warmer in the cold seasons. It's why we freeze if we visit New England in the winte. I am known to wear a down jacket when it dips below 60F, for example.

See there now? That is the problem. We natives would not have to drive north to get away from you guys, if you simply returned home after going to Disney World and our beaches, but no... Actually, I adore Yankees, and one of my favorite things to do is make fun of them, when they visit our beaches...

Nice pic. As Valhalla can testify to, my tricked out Toyota is awesome and way better than a Lamborghini,Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, or any other status cars :) an added benefit is no one wants to steal mine :)

Well Betty, we will just have to see about that little notion of yours, lol...

In the meantime, there seriously are all different types of cars at this show (bummer, change of plans, but may still be fun):
