Catching lots of stripers around the 50 bridge and south jetty in Ocean City Md last week the red drum were thick in the same areas. I've caught at least 70 stripers in the last week, no keepers lots of dinks a couple over 25 inches. The flounder bite went hog wild last week into the week prior but seems to be over. Getting limits most days when the water was clear. still some snapper blues around which is strange for this time of year, they usually move out of the bay and go into the ocean at this point. I guess it has been unseasonable warm.

Our trawling trips have been getting skunked since the start of the school year, but everything turned on last Friday... fluke, flounder, blues, bunker, porgies... you name it. So the fish are moving this week. All you need now is a little bit of luck.

On the DE side it's been a little slow. The gear is ready, I am heading to IRI tomorrow morning for sunrise. Fingers crossed, top of the incoming tide, good weather, surf not too rough. Gonna just hike the beach casting.

Tide is going to be pretty high and didn't see much on reports as far as waves, but maybe I'll still bring a board. Saw they were catching larger blues at Assateague. Good luck Coop!

That fish in your pic is about the perfect size, if you ask me, Zip... Why they make us eat the ones that are the real breeders... with all the mercury in them... makes no sense.

Not sure exactly how big... but over 28! I just mark my rod with a piece of tape.

I agree, I dont want to eat a big one and will throw them back anyhow. Even this one was 25 inches which was still too big imo. We have a ton of local fish that are short in length but fat like footballs. For these schoolies i would want to keep an 18 to 20 incher they are beautiful fish.

So, I wanted to share a recipe. My neighbor gave me a fresh 7lb striper two weeks ago and I tried something different.

Scaled it and cut off head. Cleaned it out and stuffed it with garlic, ginger, fresh branches of thyme and oregano. Scored the outside and packed the sides with seasoned flower. Pan seared in wok and finished in oven.

    It turned out muy bueno.

Wow, that's interesting. I rarely keep anything but flounder but in the spring and winter I will keep white perch and crappie. I never gut, scale and cook with the bones in anymore. I did that as a kid all the time but now filet even non flatfish. How long is a 7 pound striper, and thick? it actually fit in a wok with just it's head off? I though a 7 pounder was just about 28 inches.

I love cooking and fishing. I cook better than fishing lol. He said 6 or 7 pounder. Not sure how long. I normally filet too but this prep turned out ok. The tail was off and it filled the wok up the sides. It made a mess though with the hot oil. The bones/meat just pulled right apart. I have had red snapper cooked this way....in a soy ginger prep.

Looking at that one your buddy caught was similar size. How much do you think it weighed?

I would say right around 7 pounds but it was short, 25 inches. The fish around here, at least the local ones are heavier than a migrating fish for their length. A typical fish right around the Maryland limit of 28 inches would be 7 pounds give or take a pound. I think I started fileting everything when my son was born to lessen the chances that he would get a bone in his throat, lol.
