Fellow Swellinfo Members, I've been trying to figure out a way to get everybody back on track and make Swellinfo the place we all know and love. As a regular on this site, I feel a responsibility to do my part. Everybody has their own idea of what a Surf Forum should be, and how it should be ran, but rather than telling everybody what to do, i'd like to make some suggestions. I'm not going to name any names or anything, so don't get offended if you think i'm referring to you. Just take it for what it is and if you agree, great, if you don't, that's fine too. If you agree with everything I have said, vote yes to Make SI Great Againe. If you disagree with anything, vote No to keep it a sh*t hole. - 30 Day Cease Fire: If you have a forum member that you cannot stand and are constantly getting into it with them, extended a cease fire offer to them and obstain from responding to each other in any way for 30 days. Don't worry, you'll forge new enemies soon enough. - Stop Complaining: Everybody does it at one time or another, some more than others. My suggestion is to curb it as best you can. If everybody stopped complaining at the same time for an extended period of time can you imagine how much less negativity there will be? This goes for everybody, myself included. - Locals / Regular Posters: Stick together, don't leave for another forum because of the mods or because this place "aint what it used to be". Someone once said, be the change you want to see. When things seem like they suck, start a thread that embodies what not sucking is. Don't complain, just post a thread of whatever it is you think this place is missing. If everybody did that, we'd have content for days. - In-landers / Part Time Members: Just like in the surfing world, you have your place. You are welcome into the lineup, but be respectful of the locals. They are the ones keeping the lights on so that you can have a conversation to interrupt every so often when you decide like posting something. My suggestion to you, if you fall into this category is to contribute more. If you simply don't have the capacity or desire to do so, that's fine, but when you pop in, try to make it count, and have something of value to say, and don't come in here trying to rearrange the furniture just because you don't like the color or layout. It just causes problems, much like dropping in someone who has been surfing the same spot for 30 years. - Lurkers: Come out of the shadows. Post up a hello thread if you haven't already done so. If you have been a member for a while but rarely ever post and just read the forum, post a thread, a surf video, something. We want to hear from you and haze you into the group. Don't worry, it'll only hurt a little. - One addendum - less political threads. I'm guilty, most of us are guilty. I will chill out on them personally. Those in favor, vote Yes to keep SI Great Again, Those against, vote no to keep it a sh*t hole.
It's fundamentally been changed by admin censoring based on what they feel is acceptable. It ain't going back to how it was. Definitely was fun while it lasted. Not that I ever posted much, but imho it's done and time to start looking elsewhere...
Having seen this place change since it's inception, it seems that SI is bigger than all of us... it ebbs and flows... people drift in and out of the lineup over years... but it always seems to cycle back, if given enough time.
You are free to do as you wish, but I hope you reconsider. I don't think the "censoring" is as big a deal as people are making it seem. I pretty much post whatever the hell I want and I have not received on infraction all year. Not that I'm aware of at least. And as you can tell, I don't hold back much when I post, pretty unfiltered. You can change one letter to an * and that makes the cuss word ok lol, nobody says sh*t, see sh*t! HAHA There's a thread going right now with big tittie b*tches bouncing all over the place, how's that censorship? He only asked that no nudes be posted, which has been a rule since the beginning and has been enforced at all times, so not sure why the big deal on that one either. OK, so we can't tell someone to go off them selves, big f'ing deal. The joke has ran it's course anyways, as with any joke that gets played out or a hit song that becomes annoying. People shouldn't be hung up on this. That's really all we are being asked of. I feel free to post pretty much anything I want here and I do. Lastly, Austin took our advice and stepped back. Have you noticed him posting? I haven't. I don't know the dude, but he's trying. He's got a job to do, so we should respect that. With him in the background, things seem like normal to me. Let's just pretend like none of this happened and carry on as usual. Deal? Agreed.
it seems to me that the main area of problem is the All Discussion forum. Take up my idea of locking that down for a time and make people 'prove themselves in the surfing forums until they can get access to that. The 'locals' on that forum seem to be a good job but the amt of trolls and fake accts is getting crazy.
One addendum, less political threads. I'm guilty, most of us are guilty. I will chill out on them personally.
I can't control anything but my own actions so I'm just stating what i'm going to do. If others want to continue that's fine too. Personally, I think people should use the shopping cart method and only indulge in the things that interest you and leave everything else on the shelf. If you don't like politics, don't visit those threads. If you don't like "Scantily Clad Women", don't click the thread, if you don't like surf boart for sale ads, don't click them. Having said that, I understand where people are coming from and I will contribute less to threads that bring negativity.
fair enough. Just been checking 2nd light some and noticed that a good chunk of people who were banned recently have bounced for there... I guess that's what has gotten to me more. People who's posts I enjoy have left for reasons we have all discussed ad nauseam. I'm sure new people will eventually fill the void, but for me right now si has definitely lost a lot of its luster.
I agree with Pump, the trolls come in and get the natives riled up, people get banned, more people get pissed and on and on. Regardless of the political threades. Anyway, i'll do my part, whatever it may be.
They will be back, they always come back. Maybe with a new name, but they'll be back. Don't sweat it. If more people just ignored them, they would go away. Let's just make a collective effort to not feed the trolls.
He has said if you report them, he will verify IP addresses and such and ban them. I don't report anything for any reason in any aspect of my life, so I don't do it here. But I do make it publicly known when someone is a troll and I have seen them disappear magically, at least for a while. Also, I think the longer he is here the more he will get to know the characters and the more easily he'll be able to spot a phony account. Also, it would help if he knew about surfing because sometimes when a troll posts, you can totally see what they are saying is a spoof on surfing because they are saying all the wrong things on purpose and it stands out like soar thumb. Those idiots need to be banned to keep them from coming in and disrupting the group. Sadly, some people enjoy the trolls and the havoc they bring to a community. Troll also is loose term used for too many. I don't consider Barry a troll for example, he's a moron, he's our moron, but not a troll. Does he troll sometimes for a reaction, yes, but there's a difference. He's a real contributor to the forum as well. The others, and we all know who they are, just want to cause trouble and fight with the member they don't like.
@SUP if I didn't already fill out my absentee ballot you'd have my vote for POTUS. Imagine all the sand to reconne in Iraq as commander in chief.
Thanks FWMH, I appreciate it, just doing what I can to keep this place what it has always been, a fun place to pass the time while working or bored.
I'm limited in the controls I can provide due to swell info running unique software. Honestly I'm afraid I'm going to bring down the site. The best option is to report. I'm still here reading and learning and will eventual y understand the needs of the community better than I have. I promise that.
I come for the surf report. I stay for the scantily-clad women. If you don't like what someone says, or find a post offensive or it sickens you. THEN DON'T F@CKING READ IT! How f@cking hard is that? Wayne Christ, the younger generation needs to toughen up. I can't believe an internet site needs to be policed by a bunch of anonymous Simods because a bunch of puss!es get offended. That's what we've become; a nation of puss!es.
Exactly. It's all in fun. if it isn't fun, walk away from it. This isn't directed at you DSUP, it's aimed at all the whiny *****es.
