Happens all the time to me, it's frustrating at times, but I wouldn't want to turn this thread into F fishermen lol
I've seen lots of fights between surf fisherman and surfers over the years. There was a near riot back in the early eighties at Sandy hook when a guy hooked a surfer at second jetty. That was a weird place to surf because the surfers all sat at the tip of the jetty no more than 2 or 3 rods length away from the fisherman. The verbal abuse was intense.
Not only do you not start fishing where there's surfers... you don't start fishing where there's guys already fishing. You snooze, you lose. I remember being traumatized as a kid watching my grandfather get into it with another old guy on a jetty in North Wildwood. Some things never change...
I got one for you on the rude angler thing. When I got my first big fish from the beach this season I found an empty beach with a nice pod of bunker in really tight so no need for waiters. After livelining for a half hour or so I got a nice runnoff. With my rod bent I see five guys with waiters on walk directly out in front of me. Luckily I land my fish uninterrupted , but when I regroup to get a second fish these scumbags block me from the pod by standing out on the sandbar. The best part of the story is none of them caught. But they succeeded in making sure I didn't get a second fish by spooking the pod out and down. FRIGGIN MORONS!!
One time I was motoring back to the ramp and was just conscious enough to keep on course and not run into anything or anybody. I was just day dreaming enjoying the late afternoon sun as I ran right over a school of breaking fish and birds working above it. I then realized that the boats that were in the area were all on the fringes of the school and catching until my idiotic move. I felt like a total piece,of shlt.
Glad you scored that cow and the idiots didn't! Okay, to play on the fishing threade, I know we have talked braid in the past. I looked up reviews and one that got good reviews was a brand named Kast King. Well it kept knotting up while casting so I took it off and went back to mono. I am trying braid again. This time I am going with Suffix 832, we will see. I bought 40lb and I am putting it on a Quantum Iron PT.
I use 20 pound braid on most of my boat rods, maybe 30 on my surf rod. After using braid for a few years it's terrible when you pick up a rod with mono. It's like fishing with a rubber band. The sensitivity of braid is unreal, you can feel everything even taps of bait fish when they bump into it. Nothing better that that crisp "TICK" as a fish takes the lure and the immediate hook set.
I like the 20# suffix for stripers and blues. I feel anything heavier the bass can see it. I get the most activity with the lighter braid Zero. It really sucks when your in fish and they won't bite cuz your line is to heavy and visible. I finally figured this out when a guy right next to me was getting fish every cast and I could buy a bite. I had 30# and he had 20#and we were throwing the same hopkins. Trial and error bro! I seem to learn everything the hard way hahaha. Good luck out there mang!!!
Thanks Rad!! I am gonna try this and see how it works, Then I'll move into fine tuning. The first braid I tried was great until it starting knotting up while casting. I mean, it got to the point I took it off. I'll check in with reports!
Zip, my problem was it kept knotting up on me. I guess it was how I was working my lure. I'll try again
I throw lots of bucktails and jigs with plastic bodies so there is minimal spinning. Also with braid you have to put it on your reel under tension. If you don't it tends to burry into itself into the spool or come off in clumps. If throwing metal using a swivel and shock leader can help. I use anglers clips and most often hook directly to the line and have no issues with fishing seeing it. Went out tonight and found a massive school of bait in the bay. The stripers were blasting them on the fringes and I boated 27 fish in an hour and a half to 20 inches. Not huge fish but insane action.
I did put it on with tension. I think maybe it was the brand, we will see. That's awesome about the 27. Hey, I would rather catch 27, 20 inch fish than nothing!!
At least half those fish were tiny, like between 10 and 14 inches. As I was fishing a pod of small fish I noticed some splashing off to the side in super shallow water, like a foot or two deep. When I looked over and watched I saw a bass with some shoulders break water while chasing bait. First cast over I hooked a 20 incher and caught and released fish between 16 to 20 inches for the last 20 minutes. Funny how they separate by size. Bait was so thick it was a cloud on my sonar from bottom up to about the 6 foot mark in 20 feet of water. The stripers were visible off to the side and were just rushing the school from the edges. If anyone has a boat I strongly recommend getting a sonar with side imaging. It's the best shallow water tool I have ever invested in. I have a big screen on my little boat and actually heard a guy in another boat comment when passing that it looked like I had an iPad on my console, lol.
I love braid but suffix isn't good stuff... Stick with spiderwire or power pro. It's a big difference between that and suffix. Also fishing with braid is fantastic for feeling, I love fishing like 10-15 pound braid because it's so light and touchy. But still really strong. Think of it like this. 10# braid is like 15# mono. And 20# braid is like 30# mono. And so on until like 80# and then it's like 150# mono.
Braap, I already ordered the Suffix, so I'll give it a try. I got 40lb which is the diameter of 10lb. The suffix got really good reviews. It was either the Suffix or Spiderwire. The main reason I quit using the braid was because it kept getting these little knots in it every other cast.
The most common problem with braid that knots up on casts is due to a loosely wound spoole. Working poppers sometimes will cause this. When initially filling your spoole have it done by machine if available. If not you just want to fill it tight to the propere amount for the spoole. Happy surfing!
I was working a jig, so little jerks on the retrieve. I didn't know if it was the line (Kast King) being kind of a generic line or if it was just braid in general. I'm hoping the Suffix doesn't do the same thing. I'll know tomorrow morning.
I don't mean to talk down about the suffix like it's completely junk, but you'll do good on it. The big thing to check for is fraying on suffix. That coat over the line wears down quickly with suffix for some reason and then the line gets frayed easily on oyster rock and barnacles. I used suffix for bass fishing for years until I tried some spiderwire on a bait caster and it was night and day for me
