There is a difference between being politically correct, which is a stultifying and can be an abusive cultural problem in my opinion, versus just being more polite in conversation.
Well I sure don't mean to be the defender of the queer community but unless you totally prescribe to the bible or koran, being gay is normal, it exists everywhere in the animal world. My buddys girlfriend on Nantucket had a gay Rottweiler, tried to screw every Labrador it could hop on( that WAS disturbing, poor labs). A lot of the punk bands I loved as a kid wore makeup (Misfits, Social D, TSOL). If someone uses their sexual preference to put themselves on a pedestal or if they are sh!tbirds and you call them on that and then they play the u hate me cause i'm gay, well f u. The best example I can think of is my daughters best friend who has two moms. They are terrible parents but if you call them out on that u are a gay basher, not that the kid eats peanut butter sandwiches 4 out of 5 nights a week for dinner(just peanut butter, no jelly). Nuff with this thread...
Out of respect to you Betty, I will do my best to avoid using the word "gay" and find an alternatively descriptive word. Please don't think I'm disrespecting you if I occasionally use it, I tend to forget things infrequently. But I'm still going to say "pussie", " d!ck" and "balls". Wasn't this thread about tides? lol
Just because it exist in the "animal world" does not lead to the conclusion it is normal. Non-sequitor. Maybe it is also abnormal there as well? And I refer ONLY to the biological concept of normal/abnormal, not the "civil rights" portion. As far as I am concerned, a person can go have sex with a pine tree if they so desire.........
A pine tree would be abnormal, along with cadavers, kids, and animals. Otherwise, eh.... Bukaki, any anal sex, fetishes, s@m, group sex, ect, ect..... all of these could fit abnormal. Yup, this thread was about tides, and they go both ways.
Sounds fair. But no worries, it doesn't disrespect me since I am straight, but it pains me on behalf of my non straight friends to hear it over and over and over as a slur. I didn't choose to be Heterosexual so I assume they did not choose to be gay.
You would then love the Great WHite Pines in the forests of the Northeast woods. They are large, and size matters......
That is faulty logic. By extension, one could say that since There are no studies showing that genes cause some biological diseases, Then by extension of your logic, people learned to choose having those diseases? There will eventually show research on the complexity of genes interplay with events during gestation that result in this attraction for the same sex. I believe some research has already pointed to gestational factors. So you LEARNED to be attracted to women? Really? Most guys wouldn't say they learned it. It just happened to them as their own bodies matured..
Never said homosexuality is a disease, so your premise, once again, is non-sequitor to my comments. It is not the same as acquiring a disease. My logic is sound. As for learning attraction to females (on the part of men), that is an instinct. The world of biology is geared to evolutionary success, which is defined by REPRODUCTIVE success of a species. Homosexuality contributes ZERO towards that effort. If a gene is found, homosexuality WOULD THEN BE CONSIDERED an abnormality, or a disease. It is not presently, and the gay population better hope it never is proven to be genetic, lest it be considered a disease. just opinion, of course. BTW, I have no issue with the gay community. Let them be, but, try to be in my face?? Then THAT becomes the issue......
Man, I just love the progression of this thread. The OP is a one and done poster spamming the phorumme aboot some wave surf riding board lessons in England that nobody here will ever have the slightest interest in. Then five pages of discussion on bigotry related to sexual orientation. Half way through somebody gets banned. Eat my funk. Only on Swell Info. That is great and I like that all the time as well.
It's not a choice in the conscious sense. It's an incremental drift based on a genetic predisposition towards things such as sensitivity both emotional and physical. It's a coping mechanism that plays out over a lifetime of "nudges" and once mature that personality trait is fixed. So it's not genetic in that there is a specific gene that determines it, it is a complex amalgam of genetic, environmental and interpersonal interactions that leads someone there. I raise pigeons, most people who hear that think it's weird at the very least or even disgusting. But as a kid I grew up poor, in area that I didn't feel especially safe so my sensitivities led me to retreat to those birds. It became a big part of my life and I can't imagine a world without them. Am I genetically a pigeon breeder or did I make small decisions over time without even realizing it that brought me to it. And no, before anyone says it, I don't have sex with my birds.
