They might actually agree! That is... if they're true to the punk DIY roots. Back when it all started, it was all about defiance of the traditional styles of music at the time, and pure energy and unbridled expression of rebellion. The Clash, Ramones... even the Dropkick Murphys (although they do, arguably, have some talent)... took pride in the fact that they had no talent, and talked about it openly.
I saw Gang Green in DC in the 1980s. They were an opener for a band called Flipper (not making that up - a real band). But wWe were there to see Gang Green and they kicked righteous ass.
Ahhh... the Voidoids! Another great punk band from the gritty streets of NYC. Here's a classic: I saw the Bad Brains with the Cro-Mags in the Village back in '85. I had just turned 21 that spring!
I saw Flipper in the Early 80's. I got in a fight with their roady and kicked his ass. Bruce Loose threatened to bash me over the head with a full bottle of Heineken, then gave me the bottle instead. I drank it then threw it into the drum kit... God I was a bad ass... lol
True, and I could see you or Archy or Mitchell or Screwby or any of the other guys on here that know what punk's about going up and talking to them about it. And they'd respect it. But Barry? No way. He wouldn't even have the balls to walk in the door. He'd cross the street a block ahead to avoid the scary kids and their weird haircuts and clothes. Then go home to his safe space, take off his penny loafers and sweater vest, get out his iPad, and get online to ye ol surf forume and talk smack about those no talent losers. How many of these songs were written about cocky, arrogant, egotistical yuppies just like Barry?
I posted this is the surf flick tread, but this is the original punk surf flick. ...Lost and Taylor Steele to notes from this guy. My all time fave surf flick, not so much for the surfing (which is appreciable), but for it's influence on me and my surfing life as a grom.
